Does anyone know if they test for roids in the army, navy, marines, etc. A friend of mine leaves for bootcamp in 3 months; i think it is, and he wants to gain about 20 lbs before he goes, but is worried that they might test for them.

As far as I know they do not test for gear. It would be too expensive.

He should have nothing to worry about.

AS testing in the military....LMAO.

Go hang around a base with alot of enlisted marine grunts (especially in border areas) and you will realize that there is nothing to worry about.

I've heard that they only test 10% of the samples they collect. They just have you fear coming in as a deterrent.

Its not a good thing to take it before BOOTCAMP! i have 6 friends there currently Join instructors USMC Sandiego Depot, now there real strict on drug testing.... they will give you 2 blood test and one urine test in boot camp < total 3 drug tests>. the second test will be test for your testosterone level if its higher then usual they will take it one more time to confirm the test next thing you know you will be court marshal with DISHONORABLE Discharge
if that was the case .... any one can take the gear and pass the intensive physical training in boot cam.
i highly recommend your friend to go in drug free.

I am not too sure that they would go through the trouble of checking everyone's test levels.

Also, steroids do not get anyone through bootcamp. It is the person. If you think steroids make you something you aren't then you are greatly mistaken.

A lazy, weak minded person is still lazy and weakminded on steroids so don't give gear too much credit.

I'd like to add that an extra 20 pounds will kill him in boot camp. I would prefer to go in as light as possible, then after boot camp when the training lightens up and he can spend some time in the gym go ahead and bulk up. He's just gonna lose the 20 pounds in boot camp anyway with all the gruling running and hiking with a pack on his back. Ask any endurance athlete, he doesn't want to bulk before putting himself throught that hell.

With regards to bootcamp, I second T-bones comment. He will lose all 20, and then some. Tell him to wait until it is over...he will be much happier in the long run.

When I went through Army Basic training they only urine tested for drugs once. I doubt they tested for AS, they were looking for rec. drugs.

Also to agree with T-Bone, I've been through basic and think that adding 20lbs will hurt you, not to mention as others stated you will loose all that weight. You won't have the best diet while in Basic, nor a weight room or the sleep needed to keep the muscles you gain while from AS. Do as others have said, hit the AS after Basic.

This is how military testing works:

The urine test does not measure T-levels or the presence of AS. It's your typical "piss in a cup" and not even everyone who pisses is tested...(in boot camp maybe they are, but not in a unit.)

IF a soldier/Marine etc. is suspected of using AS, a special blood test has to be ordered for that soldier. It has to be approved by a battalion commander or equivalent (O-5).

The test costs $2000. As such, it is extremely rare. How would you like to tell your boss that you spent $2000 of unit finds and the test was negative?

Unless he goes on a monster cycle, no one will even bother him.

Go with T Bone there buddy. I've never been through boot camp in the US army, but I currently serving a tour of duty in south Lebanon with the Irish Army (UNIFIL) and can tel you that you do not want to bulk before any kind of boot camp. Even out here where I came over two months ago at 252lbs the morning PT run's were killing me because of the bulk. It's not good being the strongest in the base gym if you can't haul your ass through the dirt when the shite hits the fan. Another thing, if you can't bring AS into the field of battle it's no good depending on it off the field. I'll leave you with the saying "It's not the size of the man in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the man", !.
Let me say "Hi" to all the serving and ex-serving military member's reading this post, Happy christmas from 88th Irishbatt (U.N.) south Lebanon.

Right, stay light, all that running, the added weight will take time to get used to. I would take a cutting drug/ strenght, endurance, but bulk is a no no

I don't like to flame. But tatic is full of shit. Plain and simple.

The military doesnt give dishonarble discharge that easy. You have to commit a big crime to get something that hard. And at you intial bootcamp phase. What a joke they just do some paperwork and you're back to you nasty self. It's like this youre not in the military till you leave for bootcamp that DEP shit doesn't count. And once you make the choice to go you not really in till you graduate bootcamp.

As far as testing I can't say for sure. So tatic might be right. I now this fina will show up when they check your blood for any high levels of kidneys and liver. So just make sure you stop in plety of time before bootcamp.
I myself tried taking massive amount of weight gainer before bootcamp. What a waste. No matter how big you are it won't help a bit. It will probably just make it worse. They training you do in cardio not really physical. You'll never be told to bench 315. But you'll sre be told to do push ups for 10 min. Or hump with a heavy ass pack for 12 miles. They only thing you really need is a good heart and some pride. Save your money till later then get big. And save alot cause you'l need it for new freakin uniforms..

It's just a big waste of gear. You'll lose it all in Basic you don't lift there so when you leave you'll be weaker too, trust me.
