I was lifting today in my gym, and a personal trainer that works there told me something interesting. He said that the body can only use 45 grams of protein per meal and that taking in more than 45 grams every couple of hours is a waste. He said that the body just breaks it down into glucose or stores it as fat or something.

I have always thought that there was a limit as to how much protein the body could use at one time, but I had no idea that it was this low. Does anyone know if this is true?

THAT DEPENDS ON ALOT OF THINGS, WEIGHT, ACTIVITY LEVEL, IF YOUR ON OFF THE JUICE. SOMEBODY MY WEIGHT 265 POUNDS MAY USE MORE PROTEIN THAN SOMEBODY THAT WAYS 150 POUNDS. AS AN AVERAGE THE HUMAN BODY CAN USE ANY WHERE FROM 30-60 GRAMS OF PROTEIN EVERY 2.5 HOURS.

I did a search on this a while back. No conclusive studys have determined how much "the body" can asimilate in one sitting. But as BurnBoy so succinctly put it, it really depends on your size, gentics, and all those other factors. The general consensus of people on the board is about 40-60 grams every 2-3hrs. Hope that helps.

I think it is a good ballpark figure.

I don't think you should be eating more than 50g per meal anyway (since you should be getting 5-6 meals per day, anyway).

slin would get more of the amino acids into your cells,
but i think that the 45-50g limit is more about breaking down the protein then about
getting the amino acids into the cells.
