Yeah yeah...i know that the high reps (+15) will just result in strength from endurance and no real size, and the opposite for low reps. But what I dont get is *how* heavy should the weights befor under eight reps? Should it be heavy enough so that in the eigth rep im in failure? Or does it not matter, and all that matters is that I do 8 and not fifteen, regardless of weight size? Might sound stupid, excuse my naive self. id appreciatei f you reply. Also, how many carbs should i eat post work out and *when*? Isnt it different for a 400lbs individual to an amateur? I mean, is there a formula? Does it have to do with LBM:? Thanks again <Dan

When I go heavy I do 6-8 reps where I'm at failure at the 6-8 rep. If you don't reach failure at your last rep then you are going too light. ------------------

You should be failing at your 7th or 8th rep. I perfer 10 to 12 for most lower body exercises with the exception of squats. This doesn't include any forced reps or partials. Immediately following any anaerobic activity you should be downing at least 60 grams of carbs and at least 20 grams of protein. This will spike your body's insulin levels which will blunt the cortisol in your system. Cortisol levels will be high immediately following training because it is the body's stress hormone and it it VERY catabolic. (This is bad.) A couple hours later, take in your high protein meal once your blood sugar levels have stabalized and cortisol has been suppressed. ------------------

do high reps even give you that much strength? I know they give you endurance, but I was under the impression that it won't phase your max, for that you have to do 6 reps or less.

I never go above 5 reps on all major movements. I go hard and heavy. One to two failure reps per workout. I eat about 100g carbs immediately after my workout. 295lbs. B True

El Cubano is correct. Go hard, but don't sacrifice form. As for your carb intake...there is a lot of different opinion on that. I think you should keeps your carbs some what low and keep your protein high. 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Make your carbs about 30% of that number for your post work out meal. Lots of veggies, (Fibrous carbs), not refined. Keep the meals frequent. 6-8 a day, 3-4 hour intervals....just my 2cents. Lots of protein and fibrous carbs works for me. Can't go wrong.
