I make a post then want to change it. I use the "Edit" feature. After the "Thanks for editing" screen, I see the newly created message.

See below as an example of this message, which I slightly edited.

I asked a prominent member of this board (not supposedly of mod status) to edit his post. He did.

The "[Message edited by - no name mentioned - (edited December 20, 2000.)] DID NOT appear.

I asked him about this; no response.

Why would something like that happen? This person is not listed as a mod.

Let us surmise.

All I noticed is that the contentious portion of the post was indeed deleted.

Then the thread was deleted...

You now, what's changed is that I'm now focusing on trying to get this shit cleaned up, rather than answering newbie posts, etc.

And I feel I'm not getting much help (not that I don't receive acknowledgements of the problem from vets and mods). It sucks.

If it is malicious it can either be:

1) One of the mods with a vendeta

2) Somebody with the UBB program that has the knowledge and doesnt like you

It's hard for me to believe that any serious mod has a vendetta against me. We talk all the time.

Still, there are several mods indirectly or directly on the EF payroll, of that I know, who may have a bone to pick. This is possible.

Ulter, I believe George can get to the bottom of this decisively, because EF employee/retainer or not, this kind of behavior can only in the kindest terms called unprofessional and totally inappropriate for ANY mod -- EF employee/retainer or actively participating mod.

And I know from my discussions with UBB that this is possible.

Perhaps we should meet in person, George. While not a huge guy, you'll find me honorable and decent. It would be a chat about moving forward together.

Third, I would solicit the assistance of the numerous real IT/Internet pros to investigate this further. I know there are a lot of hackers and crackers (who would not maliciously hurt this site) on the board.

If the problem doesn't stop soon -- perhaps it has eminated from Moscow -- and I will deal with it in the most ruthless way. Even if it costs money.

Same for the New York area. Retabolil2 and Vovan will back me up on this, of that I'm sure.

While I'm a man of patience (having seen FOUR threads disappear)...I don't fuck around with clowns. Never have; never will. I'm 43, a former military professional officer and businessman.

Frankly, it doesn't matter if it eminates from Laredo, Texas. The perpetrator, if this shit doesn't stop, is going to pay in spades. And Dex always keeps his promises.

I haven't been to the bar, haven't been drinking (sorry, Luke), and I will say that you are one of the most knowledgeable, mature, genuiously serious mods on this board.

And I will include WCP, BIZ, El Cubano, 2Thick and E2.

And while I don't really know Macro, I consider him a top-notch player.George can really stop this nonsense.

I now understand this from UBB.

One of things that motivated me to EF and not Anabolex or Renegade, was George's proclamition, "This is your board." But leadership starts at the top. Period.

The other mods, well, are virtually unknowns -- maybe a few token posts -- but with a lot of influence. Frightening in a way.

Chances are it's simply an insider, EF employee who thinks it's drop-dead funny that someone would get this worked up over four posts. And now the person has you tagged because of this.

I doubt it's hackers, why hack into a buggy, bloated database simply to delete four posts. Hackers do things for three reasons:
1.) Someone said it can't be done.
2.) It's high profile.
3.) It will get published on HNN, slashdot etc.

HNN wouldn't publish a hack of EF because it's low-profile and not sexy (sorry George).

This place is not high profile outside of the small niche that is bodybuilding. (again, sorry George)

If anyone ever said UBB code can't be hacked, the person was either computer illiterate, being sarcastic or simply retarded.
Note to George, Slashcode is far more solid, more secure, easily confurable and looks a hell of a lot better than UBB

It has become a recurring theme on this board and has become a time-consuming, demotivating influence on board members.

I posture the following possibilities:

1. George is aware of the problem, is actively pursuing the solution, and is waiting for the final results before announcement. No interim report, however.

2. George is doing nothing, for whatever reason, and perhaps even knows who the damnable culprit is.

3. The IT specialists supporting EF are not competent to work with UBB and solve the problem. (Does this kind of thing happen with all the other VERY prestigious boards UBB supports? I doubt it.)

4. All of the mods (some of whom never visit the board)) have NOT changed their passwords.

5. In the interest of board protocol and rules, I will save my other postulations for later.

One thing Dexter, George is actively pursuing the problem and he has posted before on the board that they're trying to figure this problem out. I do believe that the programmers at EF are competent, after all they keep things going around here and have been able to resolve many many problems in the past. I don't know if this thing happens with other boards, but i do know that the EF team has seriously modified the UBB code and there is only a remnant of the original code still operating.

You're right there are some mods who haven't changed their passwords and i'll contact them and get them changed as soon as possible.

THIS IS A SOLVEABLE PROBLEM! And I'm glad to hear people are taking it seriously.
