damn bro, how tall are you? 285 is a lot of weight, but pushing 230 at 16 is real nice. At this point I think you should really concentrate on diet, training, and sleep. and it will come you got plenty of time ahead of you. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posting your workout may help others give you a few pointers. Look at your body as a whole you must train thoroughly for good results. When I started working out I concentrated alot on my shoulders. This will help in the long run to prevent any injuries further along the line when your weights do get serious.( DAMN ROTATOR CUFFS ) Some newer less-experienced guys really think they should have the total body just doing some bench presses and a few curls. Train EVERYthing...Train HARD. It wont happen overnight.A healthy mind always helps. 230 lbs. at that age sounds like your off to a good start. ![]() ![]() ![]()

time my friend. time. i thought it would take me forever to get to 225. then once i hit it i shot up to 300 in what seemed like no time..... then from 300 to 315 (3 plates) was another big jump.. But it takes time. At 16 you are doing good to get 230. like the bro said... look at your diet, 285 is alot of weight. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just for your thought.....My neighbor, which is a 17year old high school student came to me a few days ago for advice. We were talking weights and bench press,ETC. It came up that hes 5'7" 240 lbs. and hes embarrassed over his 195. Just think of 225 as being a natural start. Thats 30 Lbs. more then the fella next door here. Look at things positively. Take the advice offered.. Most of us didnt have advice as free as this when we started. All newcomers are very fortunate for this reason alone. Happy Training !! ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you get really strong in your tri's exercises, that will equate to a very impressive bench press. But damn bro, you're only 16yrs old.You will have one hell of a future ahead of you if you keep on training. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Start doing weighted dips. My good buddy who weighs 170lb uses 3 45lb plates on his weighted belt to push out 8 dips. He benches 320 and cleans & jerks 305. Dips will do your body good. ****I forgot to mention that my buddy is 5'11" at 170lb.******** [This message has been edited by 2Thick (edited December 19, 2000).] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

try reading powerlifting usa, they have articles about technique. Using some back arch and bringing the weight down to the right spot on your chest can add a lot of weight quickly ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey bro, benching 230 at 16 is nothing to be ashamed of. Even if you are 280, you've just hit the age where you should really start lifting. Post your routine and I'm sure everyone here will help you out but it sounds like your on the right track. Just keep working hard and you'll see results. I coach highschool football and I would be thrilled to have our 16 yr olds benching and cleaning what you are. We only have one player your age doing the weight you are. Be patient and good luck. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

i would say that you are over-training chest, probably way to many exercises and sets. most times less is better, on fun exercises like bench young guys like you tend to go overboard, try 3 exercises, 3 sets to total f**king failer, 6-8 reps. still you have your whole life to learn your body,it will come bro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
