I have an etiquette question for my Iron Bros. If you have a party to go to, whether a dinner party, social gathering or going to the mall to do some shopping do you always wear clothing to really show off muscle? Do you think people look at you like your arrogant by wearing for example a tight black lycra shirt to show your arms off. Where do you draw the line or do you just say fuck it and wear what fits best. I say fuck everyone else, my muscles are like trophies, so why not display them all the time!!!!

Although there is a time and a place for showing it off, and definite times not to - what angers me is the fact that we are conceited or ego maniacs if we were tanks, but skinny guys or even fat asses are always shedding their clothes or their wifebeaters and no one ever says a thing.

SLo and E are both right, depaend on the place and weather.

I mostly will make sure that the clothes are current, nice dress shorts and polo shirt. With a polo you can do two things; bunch it up above the bicep, or cover the gun. Both ways get som glances. And shorts fitted just right will show off the quad, and ASSets to where the girls are watching you. Never a wife beater though even in gym. Best free show is a GOlds tank top during chest for flyes. I save it for competion.

I prefer to wear loose clothing. Except pants, they fit like normal people for the most part (not with my boxers hanging out, like in the hood).
Last summer while on sust/dbol, I went to gym with an old friend. It got hot so I took off my baggy Tshirt (I had wife beater on under T). His eyes buldged & then he started laughing. I asked him what was so funny, he said "Damn, you got no neck!" I just shrugged it off but inside it felt damn good!
I like to hide my body because when you finally shed some clothes, people can't believe how big I am under all my clothes!

But I agree, there is a time & a place to show off all your hard work!

Now if its 35 degrees and you go to the mall with a sleeveless shirt... thats a bit ridiculous but when the weathers right and you got the body take every chance to show your work. Like someone said... you only live once and you wont have it your whole lifetime so show it while its there!! otherwise youll be sorry when gravity kicks in!!

I never try to show off. I lift for myself. I like to see improvement in myself and I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks of my body or me (relatively speaking). You will always hear people say that "you are getting too big" or "you would look fine without all of that extra muscle" but they don't understand that people like myself lift for themselves and nobody else.

I would look fine if I just did pushups, pull-ups, and crunches but I want to be bigger than everyone else.

As for clothing, I always wear long sleeves (even in the gym).

Like BIG HURT and others have said above, if you are really big then it doesn't matter what you wear. People will notice!

Me and my training partner love wearing the tanks and tight shirts to the mall in the winter time. I worked for it so i can show it. The eyes and stares always get me and my boy into fights because he will always be like "What the fu-k u lookin at"? He's one of the big guys on dbol,tests,decca-so he always wants to hit something. We come across as pretty boys but when it comes down to it, we can hold our own.

I gotta go with 2thick on this one. I am confident of what I have. I don't need to show off. Even though I am 6' and 220lb 9%bf, I would still feel the same at 170lb and I would still get pussy when I want to.

It's not the muscles that attracts pussy, its your attitude and the way you carry yourself. I don't need no tank-top, I got my confidence.

OK bros, its like this:

I am a show off, i am materialistic, everything that i buy, i have to have the best.
My car, my house, my body.

So why not show off what i have worked so hard to get?, who cares what people say, its better to be noticed for something than not be noticed at all, right?

People might say, look at him he`s showing off with that body, that car e.t.c, e.t.c but you know that they will be sitting at home later wishing they had the time, patience, and money to be more like me.

I say FUCK IT! - If you got it, use it!...

I'm going to be honest. Some say they don't care what others think.

I do.

If other people think I'm a fat ugly slob that sits on my ass all day, that would bother me.

If people think I'm a trim muscluar young man that takes care of himself, I like that.

So to sum up, I do wear clothes that show off my muscles. Unless inappropriate.

I agree with a lot of different opinions here. And I say wear what you want to wear. You worked hard to look like you do. I think the key is to dress appropiately for the occasion and don't be arrogant about it.

And like 2Thick said, once you reach a certain size it makes no difference what you wear. You will look big and get noticed no matter what you have on.

I dunno. I work out HARD in the gym. The way I figure it, though, people whose opinions I care about already know I'm big. As a former olympian, I've got TONS of stuff with the olympic rings and stuff on it, but I don't choose to wear it, because I really don't like to be the center of attention.

However, in the past year I've gotten an affinity for tank tops. Mainly because I need a XXL or XXXL shirt, and they're hard to find. An XL kind of pinches the shoulders.

Just my 2 bits.

PS: Maybe I'm out of the loop, but what, pray tell, is a 'wifebeater' ?

Cover it up, but tacfully. Hugo Boss has lots of nice stuff to wear, that will cover you, yet they still know you're a monster.

I generally get a better reaction from people when i cover it and they notice the size rather then when i walk around in some tight dry fit top.

My own personal preference is to not EVER wear revealing clothing. I train for the joy of training. If I never got any bigger, I would still train. I don't really like drawing attention to myself and that is just my personality. I stand out somewhere because I am short and have an okay physique. How many of you have complained about guys asking you, "Do you work out?" or "How much can you bench?" It is nice at times but I just want to be left alone and enjoy my friends and family, and I cannot if I am showing off my arms or chest. I see nothing wrong with anybody doing it, but my choice is not to.

You know it's weird that I chose to bodybuild. This is a sport that you literally wear on your sleeve, but I am just more comfortable blending in. Damn! There's one for the shrink to figure out!

To add to this thread. I say... why would you be considered arrogant or stuck on yourself if you're comfortable wearing whatever it is you want to wear.

Whether it's a tight shirt or a loose sweater or sweatshirt and so on and so on... To me, it's not about showing off but wearing what I like, so I wear it all. Tight or loose, regular fit or baggy. That's what I have to say.

If others don't like it, too bad.

Show it off. If you are arrogant, your personality will show through wether you are wearing a tight shirt or not. I say be who you are. If you want to show it off, by ALL MEANS SHOW IT! If people want to make assumptions of who you are, who cares. You are who you are and people worth knowing would never judge someone without knowing them and/or just on appearance.

So what if your girlfriend felt the same way?
Say she's going to the mall in low scooped tight clingy pullover
and her nipples are showing thru the cloth, Tight short skirt.
She says to you she's going to wear what she pleases.
Your friend turns to you and says "Sorry guy but she looks like a ho."
You say.....?

In less your a power lifter...YOU GOTTA SHOW WHAT YOU GOT!!! After all the the word "bodybuilding" should say it all. We build are bodies as a sculpture builds a statue. Would a sculpter put his finished statue in the closet when he's done with it? I think not. So why put your body in the closet by covering up with baggy close. Na ah man...I work to hard. And anyone who says that it's not a good feeling seeing a girl or a jealous guy check you out in the corner of thier eye...YOUR FULL OF SH#T BRO!!

Weather permitting, if you got it, show it. In the summer time normal people wear tank tops and cut off shirts so why can't bodybuilders? If anyone takes offense its only because they're jealous. Most of the people that catch a glimpse of a big pair of well defined guns are awestruck.

Bulldogs got it all right!!!!!! Fuck every single person who has something to say about me wearing ANYTHING that shows off my body. If Im a bodybuilder and I like looking at myself, and believe me bodybuilders are harsh critiques, then I cant imagine how impressive I must be to others. The other night I threw a birthday party for my wife. I was wearing a skin tight black lycra Bannana Republic tshirt with gabardine black pants. Every women there was commenting on my bod. They were touching my shoulders, feeling my lats and staring at my guns. When people do that its just reassurance that you look fucking great.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said it like this: (I'm paraphrasing because I can't find where I read it)

When you are driving, watch the people. The man in the pinto will try and drive as fast as he can, while the guy in the lamborgini will be driving at 55. Why? The man with the lamborgini knows he can go fast so doesn't have too.

Again, I have nothing against people showing off their muscles, it just doesn't make me feel comfortable.

I agree completely. It's a fact that as little as 10lbs. of muscle will get you more job promotions, and most importantly, laid more by better looking women. (Maxim magazine did a study...LOL)

I had the best feeling today when I went to the mall, wearing a tight fitting old white shirt (my Ross for Boss, Perot for President shirt, hehehe). Every single chick I walked past had to stare at me (I've got a pretty face too, so that might have helped). I felt SO GREAT today. I was dressed pretty sloppy, too. Didn't have nice pants or shoes, and I had a backwards hat. Damn, I look good, so I think I should let everyone know, and allow them to be sexually aroused by focusing their gaze on me. Sorry, I had to let it out.

Hell, when i get so big that you can see my massiveness through anything, I'll won't care. Until then, of course I wear something that'll show it off at least a little bit.

Check this though. Doesn't Kid Rock get you pissed off? Here's this skinny punk who has never picked up a weight, and all he wears are wifebeaters, if anything. Prick. And he's got a supermodel girlfriend... Figure that out...
like his music though...

Im kindda backwards.. When I weighed like 180 (not much muscle) i would wear sleeveless shirts and tank tops to the gym.. now that im almost 240, i wear sweatshirts, and windpants. =) I agree with the bros who said, once you get to a certain size everyones gonna notice anyway.. During the summer I might wear a fairly tight t-shirt out, but during the winter, nothing but XXL sweatshirts and baggy pants. I've gotten comments in baggy clothing too, so im still happy that people notice.

Gymratsd. . .A friend of mine and I used to always joke, "Tank tops are a privelege, not a right!"
That's another for the scrap book, I like it.
Personally, I am more of the understated type of person. I go with baggy clothes and sweatshirts at the gym. . .Save it for the beach and bedroom, but I also have a girl I basically live with so I don't really have anyone else I want to show off to.

I don't even own a tank top. Every cool chick I know makes fun of guys in tight shirts and tank tops. If you are big they will notice. Plus, I also lift for me. I think it was Arnold who said "the guys starting to get muscles are the ones that show it off, those that have them don't"

I have to go with Spunky and Kodiak on this one. I was the same when I was a buck 80 tight shirts and shit. Now I'm 237 @ 5'8 and wear only loose stuff. I'm not much of a shower now. I too work out and almost live with my girlfriend, thus I don't have to impress any one. But I assure you that if you're big you'll stick out like a sore thumb regardless of what you wear -especially with a nice suit and tie for the meetings-
