I am 6'4 and I have seen many people taller and the same height as me and they are just as strong as muscular shorter people but are thin. Why is that. Is it because they have longer muscles. Taller people also seem to have bad genetics in getting stronger

Hey bro, I know what you mean. Im 6'3" and its a bitch putting size on my arms and legs. My chest and back are pretty decent, and my shoulders are wide, but I look funny 'cause I've got long bitch arms. A short dude may have the same amount of muscle as a tall guy, but it'll be more compact, so it appears bigger. Bodybuilding is all an illusion anyway. It just gives me more reason to train that much harder.

Taller people can gain muscle, it is just that because a taller person has more area than a smaller person, it takes them a longer time to cover there much larger frame.

If a 5 foot person has 15 inch biceps they look massive put these on a 6 foot person and the look small. Thus for every pound a smaller person puts on the taller man must put on much more which takes a lot longer.

Yeah I know how you guys feel, i'm 6'5
I got long ass arms and it's hard to get a nice bicep peak, and i have a frame to hold a lot of weight, but it's hard to see any size because my body is so long.
I think our genetics are shitty tho, but the results are great once when we get the weight on cause we have such a larger frame.

I am only 6'1" so I can't quite commiserate with some of you giants, I can however say it is difficult to build longer lanker bodies initially, but through hard work you can achieve your bulking goals. Lou Ferigno. . .

Excellent post, and you are correct for the most part. I'm 6'2" tall and big shoulders and a nice back, but kinda average everywhere else. And like many have pointed out, the shorter guys look bigger, yet by the same token, it's usually easier for us taller guys to "appear" lean. Besides, chicks dig tall guys anyway.

Same here 6'4, it takes a long time to fill in at that height. When you do you will be a monster. I like being tall, I'm finally starting to get there, think about it. We can gain muscle, but a short person will be short for the rest of their life.

yeah Lou Ferrigno is a good inspiration, arnold too although he was 3" shorter than me so I can't help to feel he had a better height, but now that i'm up at the 240mark at 6'5 starting to fill out well...
Sucked being tall and skinny but i am noticing as i'm getting bigger people act differently around me that I do'nt know..
I think when you can overcome the obstacles of your height and put on some weight being tall pays off..

for all you tall monsters, you ever find girls are a little intimidated by you?
I've had girls mention it to me a few times that we're a little intimidating to them, considering the average height for a girl is what like 5'4? and we're a foot taller

I know a lot of people do not want to hear this, but height does not matter. Your genetic structure is predetermined. You are either ectomorphic, mesomorphic, or endomorphic. The three builds come in all heights. Quick summary- Ectomorph - thin, long limbed, low bodyfat, Mesomorph- Muscular, athletic, often shorter limbed, bodyfat varies. Endomorph- thick waisted, weak upper body stregth, high bodyfat. I'm not sure if there is an overwhelming number of ectomorphs that are tall, and a majority of mesomorphs that are short, but what I can tell you is that your genetic build is the reason you are having problems gaining strength and muscle, not your height. I know that this person is not a bodybuilder, but lets take Sammy Davis Jr. for example. He was 5' 8" at 128lbs. Very long limbed for his body. Do you think he could put muscle on fast? Now I do agree that a short mesomorph looks large, but does'nt a tall mesomorph look even more impressive. Like a 315lb solid defensive lineman. HUGE. Here is the great news for all of you long armed, thin waisted, ectomorphs. Most of the Top pro bodybuilders I have seen were all pretty long armed and tall. They all seem to have come from long, thin, frames. I think once you start gaining the quality muscle, it looks more impressive on an ectomorph. I think mesomorphs excel in power, size, and strength to a degree much higher than an ectomorph. If an ectomorph reaches the strength of a full blown mesomorph, which is extremely unusual, the look of symetry, and definition, which the mesomorph tends to lack is freaky on an ectomorphic frame. It just takes an ectomorph a long time to reach this point. I imagine that since Sean Ray is only 5'8" tall and competes at 190-200, I would have to say if he never would have lifted he would have been 140 soaking wet. Because he was long limbed and thin, he developed into what we see now. I can't tell you how many guys I know the same height and weight, and they don't look like that. Dorian Yates, Ronnie COleman, Hulk Hogan...all tall guys. All huge with muscle. Its true to shrink them down to 5' 8" would make them freaky mush muscle, but genetically speaking this will not happen. Genetics and bodytype is the reason, not your height. So the next time you feel the need to make the excuse that all short people build muscle much easier than tall people....take a look around the gym for that 5' 7" guy bench pressing the bar and maxing out at 95lbs with a 24 inch waist...bodytype.....not every short guy that got big got it overnight. Have patience, learn, stay consistant. Just my 2 cents. Take care.

I agree with the bros saying that we can put muscle on but it taking longer and a taller bodybuilder that has managed to put on size to me does look better. I have to work double hard to put on any size but I'm glad I'm fairly tall. I find the shorter guys a lot stronger though. It has a lot to do with the leverages of their body mechanics. Try holding a car battery against your chest, then lengthen your arms and hold it out. Not so easy with long ass arms is it? In pressing and pulling movements they literally have a shorter movement to push/pull the weight, which would take less energy to perform a rep. A lower centre of gravity helps in any compound lifts as well.

VEINS has a great point. If you look at most strength competitions and BB contests its usually the taller guys who win. Take Franco and Arnold, Franco was actually quite a bit stronger than Arnold and his chest alone was far more muscular than the Austrian Oaks however Arnold always won. Reason being is that if your over 6' and have a complete package its far more impressive than being short and stocky.

A buddy of mine has arms about 1 inch smaller then mine but they look a hell of alot bigger because he's about 6 inches shorter then me.. thats what pisses me off! Everyones always complimenting him on his arms, and im like..... what about mine?? =) But I guess 17" arms on a big frame look small...

Iron Ghost,

Actually I weighed in this morning at 232, since back surgery it's been a struggle to keep weight up and BF% down.

Most of my weight is in my chest, back and thigh's....as with everyone else my arms and calves suck major cock!!!! And believe me, even at 240, and standing 6'4, it's not as big as it sounds....I looked better many, many years ago at 270....Everyone called me Sasquatch then....hahahahahhahahahahaha

My one decent trait is a narrow waist, but no ab's of course.....at 240, and keeping with a strict diet(and good supplements...heh heh heh) I can keep my waist at a tight 32, and a comfortable 33. With a big chest, and nice lat's, it looks much more impressive than it actually is....Believe me!!!!!

Here my 2 cents fella's...... Alot of the way your body is built is not how you lift or what you take....Its genetics....Look at these Pro Athletes. Football and Basketball players.. alot of them were born with a natual build and ability to build...My bro and I lifted the exact same way for years. We also do the exact same cycles. Were basically same hieght. But his body structure was built to be more cut(not to say that hes not a big dude) My body stye on the other hand was really thick. I out weigh him by a good 20 pounds, yet he looks alot better all the way around.. Hard work and determanation will be 50% of how you look. But the other 50% is gentics...Look at your fathers or grand fathers, and look at there body stuctures..I guarnatee if your father is a 130 pound guys you will have alot harder time putting on muscle mass, than a guys whos father is 230. But thats just my opnion.

"If you have to talk about how bad you are, then obviously your not big enough, SO SHUT UP AND LIFT, and let your body speak for itself"

Hey, pitbull, no offence bro, I said I like being tall I have nothing against short dudes. IMHO a dude 6'4 with 20"arms is more impressive than a dude, say 5-2. I feel sorry for Lee preist cuz I think he gets screwed a lot in contests due to his height.
He just looks so dominated next to the tall guys.

quit bitching and eat more.

your tall, which means you have a load of body mass even when your not big and strong.

eat more.

thats really the only issue.
some of the strongest guys ever are tall.

the average NFL lineman is tall, and they are all huge.

you cant eat like a 5'8'' guy
eat like the monster you hope to be.
