One of my buddies told me that doing shrugs (dumbells) in anything other than a strait up and down motion will ruin your rotator. I do them in a sort of circular motion and it doesn't bother me. Any opinions??? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

The logic behind rolling your shoulders when shrugging is that you are using all three functions of the traps--shoulder girdle elevation, scapular retraction, and scapular adduction. This logic is flawed, as gravity operates in a straight line. Better to do shrugs straight up and down to hit the first function, and straight-arm pulldowns and straight-arm cable rows to hit the other two functions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
