It's so interesting to me to see how the Internet is changing our world. Imagine this 10 years ago?

I remember typing text-only messages on MCI Mail to the very few people who owned computers and had limited access to the Internet...

BigC, you are one cool guy. Imagine this. Just 8 months or so I start a dialogue with a bro in Iowa. A goodhearted, very serious bro: BigC.

And short messages after that, then longer messages about our lives and life in general. I would really like to meet you in person and hope to have the opportunity some day.

And it's been like that with other bro's, too, to a more or less degree. But it has been gratifying.

I regret, though, that I might need glasses soon, because of all this looking at the monitor.

And much of it has been on EF, where there are some of the finest brothers and sisters around. I've really benefited from this fine, well-constructed board and the knowledge people have spent their time giving me.

I wholeheartedly agree with el cubano, by the way.

Moreover, as I've stated before, this gratuitous deletion of threads (on which dozens of people have put their time and energy into writing replies) is repugnant to me.

And I don't believe it is the result of a "technical glitch." This site is too well constructed and maintained.

This has been both exciting and humiliating. Exciting because of all the quality support I've gotten; humiliating because of the deletion of two previous threads and a complete non-response from EF. As we used to say in the Air Force: "Loyalty Up; Loyalty Down."

What has urged me finally to join is the chance to support Dexter's bid for Mod. I've read most of the posts in this thread, and I gather the matter still hasn't been decided yet.

Even though no one here knows me yet, I'll testify to Dexter's character. I've gotten to know him through our one-on-one email correspondence, and I must say I was struck from the beginning by his intelligence and honesty.

I have asked him questions about AS and other things, and he's always been able to answer them. The most important thing for me, though, is that I trust him.

This board relies on trust, considering that what brings us together is a socially stigmatized and understudied, in terms of clinical research, "hobby." In the absence of a lot of reliable information, we depend on one another's personal testimony, which is based in large part on experimentation with our own bodies. For this reason, trustworthiness is the most important character trait for any member of this board.
