Well I have been asked to address this issue. Constantly I have been asked what is the most important aspect of training Diet/Nutrition or Training/Routine? My answer...Neither. Sleep is the most important process your body goes through. For awhile early in my career I was busting my butt in the gym and because of school and the J-O-B(have to pay the bills, right?) I was getting about 4-6 hours of sleep per night. Through the week I was only getting actually about 4hrs/night and on weekends I would sleep in and make up for the lost sleep. Well it doesn't work like that. You must get the required amount of sleep every night to see substantial and consistent growth. Yes I grew some...yes I got stronger. It was nothing compare to when I started getting 8hrs of sleep per night though. During the sleeping process, that is when your body builds muscle, makes repairs, and even in some cases burns fat!! If your diet is right and you up the amount of sleep you are getting to at least 8hrs/night, I guarantee that you will reach your training goals alot faster. It will result in faster gains and better recovery time...Oh yea, don't forget the Vitamin B-12 inject...this will help. All you fellow Iron Bros...do yourself a favor...GO TAKE A NAP!!!

is their any advantage to get more than 8 hours of sleep per night? for example 10?

when i was in h.s i only got 8 hours of sleep in bed,it wasnt always 8 hours of sleep just 8 hours in the bed,and after that i averaged almost 12 hours a day and i gained alot of weight(muscle and fat),but i dont know if it becaues of extra sleep or not because i have heard of other people gaining large amounts of weight a year or two after h.s,but i have to cut back on my sleep i already started doing this, because it is impossible to have a life sleeping so much and getting up and going to bed at different times, but i feel alot more tired thoughtout the day, when i got 11-12 hours of sleep per night before there was never a day a felt sluggish.....but i would always go to bed at 2 am wake up at 1 pm or 2 pm,etc, and my mom got pissed so i cant do that shit anymore and its hard to carry a normal life doing that

Getting more than 8hrs of sleep has no medical benefits as documented by the American Journal of Medicine. Sure does feel good sometimes though...Ha!ha!

Sleep is when your body produces the most testosterone, and when it burns the least calories. So, sleep to grow.

i did what chillin408 did and went to bed late and woke up late. then i had to get on a schedule and wake up early. i guess my body was adjusted to my bad routine, and i couldn't go to sleep, i would only get about 5-6 hours a night. i would feel like shit the next day. i would have a head ache and be sluggish and was really lazy. i didn't even want to lift. then i started to get back on schedule and got about 8-8.5 hours of sleep and felt like a new man. i love sleep!

A good nights sleep has also shown to help memory and computation skills.Somee believe that during deep (stage 4) sleep your brain works to preserve important things which you learned during the day.So all the HS and college students sacrificing sleep for study are not providing the right conditions to help remember their material.

chillin408----8 hours is ideal, if you sleep more than 10 hours a night, then your sleeping when you should be eating. I've noitced that when I wake up after sleeping for 12 hours, I'm slow and lethargic all day, and most likely I missed several meals because I was sleeping. Keep it at 8.

if you are gonna sleep 10hrs do like i do,
sleep 4hrs, get up eat turkey sandwich, sleep
4hrs, get up eat some eggs, go back to sleep
for the last two hours. oh, and an alarm clock might come in handy.

if i have any bodyparts still sore on sunday,
i'll do this all day until about 4:00pm.
then get up and cook some meals to prepare for the next couple 'o days.
