Have an important question on Propecia. I went to the doc yesterday and got a scrip for it. He told me that if I were to start using it now for, say, the next 10 years, it would stop any further hair loss. But, if my hair is the same in 10 years as it is now, and I stop taking the drug, it will only take three months to lose ALL the hair I would have lost naturally during those 10 years!!! So, my question is this: Is it smart to only use Propecia during a cycle? My thoughts are that if I use it during my cycle, it will prevent any unnatural advances in hair loss during that time. But when I come off the cycle can I then stop the propecia? Or will I then lose all the hair I would have during the cycle?

For starters, I don't believe what your doc is telling you. Can you explain this or have him explain it to you? Only use propecia in a cycle that includes testosterone. If there is not test in your cycle, there is really no need for propecia. If you are susceptible to hairloss, you should be taking the propecia on or off cycle if you want to keep your hair.

Here is what the doc means... Go look at you hair in the mirror. Now, lets say that if you just let nature take its course, ten years from now you will have HALF as much hair as you see today. But instead, you start taking Propecia today and take it religiously for the next ten years. So, ten years from now you still have exactly the same amount of hair you have today (thanks to propecia). Now, lets say you then decide to stop taking the drug. It will only take THREE MONTHS for you to lose HALF your hair, and end up exactly where you would have ended up naturally over the course of those ten years. So, in other words, stop taking the drug, and three months later its like you never took it at all. ------------------

I understood what you meant, I just don't understand the science behind it. It would have to be some kind of rebound effect of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. I'm just not sure that your Doc really knows what he is talking about. For example, to say that it will stop your hairloss is inaccurate. It may stop it, it might just slow it, or if you are lucky, you might regrow some of it. It is quite an individual thing. In any case, it is not as cut and dry as he has made it out to be.

I heard the same thing... once you stop taking the drug you loose what you kept. Don't know the science behind it but that is what i heard or read. ------------------

Don't forget to mention that propecia can also cause its own little form of 'deca dick' (for a lack of a better term). So you'll feel better and look better with hair. You just won't have the sex drive to use it. . .I tried it once, went with the nizoral shampoo and I'll deal with the cards I'm dealt from there. . .AS isn't helping but choices are what this game is all about. ------------------ |
