I started using sets of single reps. I was looking through some old muscle magazines from the 1960's about variations on single rep sets. There was the Ross system and several others. They all involve a series of single lifts using a weight somewhere between what you do for reps and your max. I just started doing them tuesday. Thursday I did back. At the end I loaded some decent weight (295) on the bar and did straight leg deadlifts for 40 minutes non-stop. I would do a lift, rack the weight, take 5 breaths and repeat the lift. I am not sure how many I did but it was dozens. Towards the end I was taking more like 8 breaths per set. I was sweating profusely after those 40 minutes and somewhat winded as well. My forearms feel like they are getting some serious growth. I did the same thing tuesday on bench press day. Today is legs and I am apprehensive about going to do it, since I know I will probably be wasted afterwards. ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

No, I don't do st leg deadlifts for forearms - but they always get a good pump from them nonetheless. I never use hooks or wrist wraps - and my grip is the weak link. My forearms always give out around 20 reps even when I go very light. This is probably good for my lower back though. In 1997 an MD recommended full disability for me due to a lowback injury and "severe degenerative arthritis of the lumbar spine" found on MRI. I never took any disability but it pretty much effectively ended my Chiropractic career. I still do some part time Chiropractic work (about 20 hours a week) so I can also work my way through medical school (scheduled to start my 3rd year in Jan) without incurring tons of debt - but the days are long gone that I can bend over 100+ patients a week while adjusting them. Actually an MD started me on testo and HGH about a year ago to help with my low back pain - which it did effectively. My lowback was in constant pain a couple of years ago, and now I can straight leg deadlift 275 for 20 reps. Not setting the world on fire but a great recovery for an older guy with arthritis - I am tickled pink for being able to do it. I am real glad my MD started me on the testo. I feel much better. However my MD could stand to learn a thing or two from talking to the vets on here. Heck - I have finished all my basic science requirements for med school (the first 2 years of med school) and still have learned alot of things reading the discussions from E2, TooThick, and other mods. Often practical experience beats "book learning". Thats why in a fire fight I would listen to what some sargeant with experience in real combat would tell me then some lieutenent straight out of ROTC (regardless of rank). ![]() ![]() ![]() |
