My legs are large in relation to the amount I squat since I have long femors and knee pain. I find that if I do some leg presses or leg extensions and pre-exhaust my legs before squating, I don't have to use as much weight to destroy my quads so my knees don't suffer as much. Make sure you warm up your knees on a bike or stair master before working legs as well. You can also try doing german volume training (basically 10 sets of 10 but you can add in leg extensions in between sets of squats), supersets, giantsets, drop sets, etc. These all focus on volume and intensity instead of shear weight related overload. I have tried most of these and they really help blow up your quads without hurting your knees. Nothing beats heavy squats for leg development but you have to focus on staying healthy over an 800 squat. Good luck. giantset ------------------

Don't know if you strecth your legs before you work them, but beware of the hurdlers stretch. It places alot of stress on the knee. My physical therapist told me not to do them anymore.

I think I read somewhere that Paul Dillett doesn't lift heavy at all, and he is a HUGE mofo! I think he concentrates on squeezing and very high reps. At least that's what I read. Don't know if it is true or not though.

It's all about the form baby! Make those muscle hurt. This can be done with lighter weights. ------------------

I remember when "pumping" was in, doing 19 reps with your 20 rep max. I thought they were pussies for doing so little weight. Then I met juicers who did it and I'll be damnned if they didn't grow big from pumping and juicing. In a way I think all growing takes on juice is getting your gear-laden blood pumped into the active muscles. Target your hamstrings for a while, and adductors. What happened to the other half of your patella? Sports taping would help with patellar tracking. Use less weight, more reps, 3 or so sets. Peace! ------------------

the non-contractile (sarcoplasm) elements of the muscle will hypertrophy is you use a light weight, pump and fatigue the muscle. if all you seek is size, no pain, and not much strength, it is the way to go.

I'm not sure what exercises you are able to perform, but you may want to try something like drop sets with light weight. Even if you can only do leg extentions, try some drop sets and really burn em up.

Dillet spends most of his effort concentrating on breathing.
