do you guys think that anti-depressents such as Paxil, Effexor, Celexa, etc. hinder muscle gains or decrease strength in anyway?

I don't see them affecting gains at all..alot of guys use them..

as far as strength I can tell you from personal experience that at least the one I took made me tired and very unenergetic..so my strength and training intensity suffered..

Paxil has a slight mellowing effect that you may not want. I've tried them all and like prozac in low doses + welbutrin (love that stuff!)

No. Not directly anyway. If it made you drowsy, that could of course adversly affect your workouts. Effexor would be the least likely above to cause drowsiness due to its noradrenergic activity. Maybe it could even enhance your workouts.

bump. I'm interested in wellbutrin. what "instigated" your doctors to prescribe this. ie: how should I bullshit my doctor to prescribe me some.

no "you shouldn't... blah blah blah... bullshit."

If I wanted to get some wellbutrin what should I tell my doctor?

thanks for the replies. I was just thinking that perhaps strength would go down if these meds had any muscle relaxing properties like benzodiazapenes do. later.\

these medications may have effects on the CNS or adrenals which effect alertness and metabolism. that is why weight fluctation or fatigue are listed as common side effects. Observe carefully and consult with your doctor. DO NOT POP anti-depresents if you didn't get them recommended by your doctor, dependence sydromes are possible.

I agree with Doc Juice. Stay away from anti-d's unless you need them. At 46 years old I needed another round of Zoloft and I lost a lot of gains because you become less aggresive and very tired. I think it lowers your natural test tooo. Try l-tryptopan, a natural prozaic.

Valdez, Welbutrin is most commonly used to counter the sexual side effects of prozac, zoloft, etc. If you are already taking an SRI inhibitor, just tell the doc that it is killing your sex drive and you want to add welbutrin. Welbutrin works by supporting/stabilizing your dopamine/nor-epinephrine levels, giving you a feeling of greater energy (not wired like with dexadrine though). I've also noticed that welbutrin has a noticible effect on reducing nervous system burnout during periods of heavy training.

I've been taking Prozac for a few months now and in the peak of my cycle and I can tell you it's not seeming to hurt my gains one bit. I'm growing just fine. Later, Green

BTW I'm taking 20mg/day
