sure you could make progress on it, but just join a gym instead. Depends on your goals. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It certainly won't hurt you, but it isn't the same as training with free weights. There is no sustitute for fee weights, they add density to the muscle, tendon strength and lateral balance and lateral small muscle strenght, not to mention if done correctly they can add to flexibility. The bow flex is a cable system with limited range and artificial lateral support. It is why any guy on this board over 225 can bench 500lbs on a universal, but very few can actually even move 150lbs dumbells off there chest. . . ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For your money you just can't beat a 300lb. O bar set. When I got mine I could deadlift less then half what I can now and I am still gaining well. Only lifting real heavy in the squat or deadlift will make your bones heavier and thicken you like a real lifter. Never buy any excercise thing you see on TV. Do what the powerlifters and Arnold did, free weights, deadlift and squat your way to power. It's on the painful side, but even the guys on the late night TV did it so they could get the job pitching cable contraptions. A 150$ deadlift bar is vastly cheaper then a half year at the gym, will last for your great grand kids, and will always be there. I don't go to the gym. If you are doing it right, a deadlift workout takes only a few minutes. This is not common knowledge among common folk as 2 minutes deadlifting is 2 minutes to long for 99% of the guys in the gym. It hurts like hell, a tough sell. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bet that guy who does the Bowflex commercial works out real hard in a GYM to look that way... I think a gym membership is your best bet, i got the weights in my basement and just can't get the same intensity as i do at the gym,and my gym is just a weight room, no fancy machines, just some old worn out iron and concrete walls, perfect. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

i think it would depend on your goals. free weights = size, strength, density ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bet everyone who has one used it for a month, then it turned into a clothing rack. My personal opinion is that anyone who buys one should put a REAL arrow in it and shoot themselves in the head !! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Don't wast your time or money. Look in the classiieds for used weight sets, weights, bars and anythung you can get your hands on really. Weider has a peckdeck machien, with a few cables, and a leg extension. It's only $189 here in Canada. You can build a pretty good mini gyn with about $300-$400 and you can start small, then keep buying more wight when the time come, so it's actually pretty cheap. Thats what I did, and I don't have to worry about finding time to eat and go to the gym, everything I need is here. Well, good luck shopping. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I agree with shaner, I just bought a powerhouse gym for $200 and an olympic weight set, just in time to start my cycle. I'm probably still going to use my gym for some excercises, until I get my own dumbells I'll probably use the gym for them. But I beleive I'll see much better results in my basement than I will listening to Brittney Spears blaring over the "club" speakers. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you plan to spend $ on something besides a gym, get some powerblocks (quick adjust dumbells, 5-145 lbs) and a swiss ball or 3. Powerblocks are expensive but damn are they sweet... Peace! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

bowflex = suckers. have you ever seen any pro-BB say,"bowflex made this body". of course, if you want a nice sleek girly frame, go for it. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

i would agree with everyone who is in favor of free weights. With them you could do both power and concentration exercises, while on a machine it is hard to get the same explosive power. Good old dumbells for me. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I work out at home with a power-rack (BODY SOLID $350) An oly bar 500lbs of plates, oly lat attachment and screw on dumbells using standard plates, real cheap only set me back about $ 1500, working out at home is much better than the crowded gyms. I can't concentrate with all the damn racket in the gyms. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Heh. Supersetter. I see pro BB'ers saying Myoplex made their bodies. Kind of a poor analogy, but we get the point. If you want to buy one, get it. It may work very well for those 'rainy day' workouts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I say get some free weights (dumb bells) you can do just about anything w/ dumbbells. I believe all those adds on TV are all out for your money. Did you know Americans spend 5 billion dollars a year on exercise equipment off the TV that is considered a quackery product. Bowflex=sucks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Is it just me, or does that Randy guy from the commercials seem like a fag to anyone else. No seriously, I really think he's an honest to god homosexual. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I own one. Bowflex is good for the house. It is good for when you have an injury and can't and shouldn't mess with free weights. It is safer, however it does not replace free weights. It's something for your lady to use to get her little sweat on after Oprah goes off. (No offense ladies) It is good to have--that's it. IT IS SIMPLY A CABLE WORKOUT!!! That's it. Go for it and test it out. They will accept it back simply if you are not satisfied with how it is working for you. Good luck with it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by big4rt (edited December 05, 2000).] ![]() ![]() ![]()

They are made for lazy arsed people who can't be bothered to go to a gym or are so out of shape that they feel intimidated to go to a gym. The later usually say they'll use it to drop a few pounds until they feel confident enough to enter a gym and never will as it won't work. The trouble with any form of working out at home is lack of motivation as well as distractions. Yeah, I know some people can manage it, but they'd improve much faster in the right environment. If you really want one I'd check the free ads as I'm sure there are loads for sale 2nd hand, from all the people who tried it once and gave up as it was too dificult to use whilst sat in their arm chair eating cakes and got in the way of the TV. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
