I'm an Athletic Trainer here at college, so I've studied the theory behind many Therapeutic Modalities - Electric Stimulation being a huge one....ALL my research says unequivocably that when it comes to actual muscle growth (hypertrophy) electric stim. at MOST simply may help to maintain injured muscle during periods of inactivity following surgery....hence specific parameters and protocol for "Muscle-Re-education/Prevent Atrophy" do exist, However, as for promoting actual growth - especially to the degree you would be looking for...NO WAY....SAVE YOUR MONEY! I use this all the time on athletes..great for pain/swelling control....MAYBE muscle re-education...but its def. NOT going to give you gains....later bro...

You didn't like TENS for pain relief Ranger? (by the way, welcome back bro, I'm sure your mission succeeded). I have a TENS and I love it. Of course, I work with them regularly and am an expert on positioning the electrodes and adjusting modulations, if I humbly say so myself ;-) The only electrical stimulation that can cause growth in uninjured/non-diseased muscle is "Russian" (medium frequency) e-stim. It hurts like hell and is less effective than lifting 30min 3x/week. If you have injured or diseased muscle, that is another thing. Drizzt nailed this one. Save your money. that's cool, i'm glad i didnt buy one, the reason i was asking is because a couple years ago i tore my rotator, and my chiropractor had me hooked to one for a few weeks, and it worked great to heal it up, and he said it builds muscle too. and i read 10 min on it, is like doing 300 push-ups,that's what bruce lee said anyways, and he was a tore up cock sucker. so i was just interested, thanks! for savin me so green....later [This message has been edited by big_bad_buff (edited December 02, 2000).]

they are good for sprinters to recognize the muscles and nerves more fast activities, but they do not produce the difference between olympic athlete and ordinary athlete they are good for amazing the nerves of the body but do not wait to get exceptional muscle mass or at least muscle mass from them may be they help for shape and tighten for me they are more necessary to sprinters than bodybuilders

For any hypertrophy to occur, the muscle has to be in a stretched position or under a load at the time of stim. If it is passively stim'd, it isn't going to hypertrophy, in fact chronic low intensity stim may cause atrophy. My girlfriend had a problem with her left lateral gastroc. No matter what she tried, she couldn't get it to hypertrophy. We used an e-stim and dorsi flexed the foot while it was contracting. This technique did get the left to balance with the right, but it was painful and had to be done at least 2x per week for 20 min. Contracting the muscle volutarily under a load (i.e., weight lifting) is far superior for growth. Only if the muscle is deinnervated for some reason, would e-stim work and only if the muscle is loaded, and I'd use a fairly high frequency stim. F1 |
