I posted this on another board, but want to post it here, too, 'cause it's important

The very disturbing recent thread on this board by jay287 (http://www.elitefitness.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/038924.html), as well as posts I see here and there from brothers who have obviously given themselves an abscess with a dirty needle stick and don't know what to do about it, prompts me to offer this advice: (1) observe impeccably sterile technique in everything you do and, (2)if lightning strikes and you do develop an abscess or other infection from a needle wound, consider it a medical emergency and see a doctor pronto!

Not many brothers are aware that needle sticks, knife wounds, and other forcible insertions of bacteria deep into flesh can result not only in a painful abscess, but also in sepsis, a serious, systemic infection that can have grave consequences. Perhaps the worst result is bacterial pericarditis, when the infection settles in the pericardium, the
double membranous sac that envelops and protects the heart, or bacterial endocarditis, when the heart chambers' linings and valves are involved. Infections here are not uncommon following a dirty needle stick - IV drug users have one of the highest prevalences of bacterial pericarditis and endocarditis - and they can cause severe debilitation through inflammation and necrosis of the heart muscle and surrounding tissue, even death in a pretty high proportion of cases, up to 60% when the inflammation has been raging for awhile and the patient's immunity is compromised. Anyone who watched the TV show "NYPD Blue" a couple of years ago will recognize this situation in the "death" of the lead character, "Bobby Simone," who developed bacterial peri/endocarditis following either a dirty needle stick at his dentist's office, or a knife cut on the street. Yeah, it can be that sudden and that final, so "Be Careful Out There!!!"

Take home point: Don't fuck around with an abscess. If you've got one, it's as serious as a heart attack, bro. Consider it a medical emergency and get treatment YESTERDAY.

This is so all my brothers can be well, be happy, and lift heavy, until you're even older and stronger than me!

Just went to see the doc today about an infection, second one i've gotten this cycle.. I'm taking all of the protections when injecting, my friends even laugh about how anal i'm being, and i'm the one who keeps getting fuc*ed up.. Can't figure this one out..

Most docs are allright about it, you are going to get a few that will lay into you, but they will treat you. Worst case is you have to find a new doc.. Better than having to look for a morticican bros..

He put me on Augmentin, and asked me if I needed to seek counseling for my gear addictions.. LOL

Seriously, steroids can supress your immune system so much that even on antibiotics you won't kick a given infection.

In the event this does happen, generally the antibiotic will kill most bacteria but some resistant ones will survive... in a healthy person these would be killed by the immune system but when you are on steroids you immune system is largely "shut down"

So you are stuck with the strongest and most drug-resistant bacteria reproducing in your system.

I dunno, just know when to say when.

SKABIEZ, this is factually incorrect. What you are describing is more suitable to corticosteroids, not androgens. If this was true, then HIV patients should never receive oxandrolone, and we know that they do.

Cockdezl-

I know this traditionally applies to corticostreoids, but most anabolic steroids do have immunosuppressive qualities as well... something like testosterone or HGH of course doesn't but that is a different class completely- truth is noone is 100% sure of the effects sof steroids on immunity.

Hell yeah tell them the truth.
Beleive me, they will know anyway. That's the first question my doc asked me. Coming in to the hospital all jacked up and limping with a huge abcess in your ass, of course they will know.

For some reason, I've been getting lumps on my ass every time I inject the new Omnas (I have one right now)...they go away within a few days I'm certainly not going to go to the e/r for that.....but if yours do not go away, do not keep injecting in that same area, and definately see a doctor...I've heard of people dying from abseses

Right. You will know if you have an abcess that is infected. The pain will be unbearable. I'm not talking a little lump that goes away in a few days. My whole leg was throbbing down to my ankle. Couldn't sleep, couldn't walk, couldn't eat, I was burning up. I had a huge lump the size of a grapefruit. The doc said he drained two coke cans worth of infection out.
