This is just a hypothetical question, but how you can dose insulin right, if theres 100 IUs in every ml, and it would be safe to start at 2 IU????    | ||

Where u live, u can probably get hold of the Humalog pen. It kicks in after 10min and lasts up to 3,5 hours. Just twist the top of the pen to adjust IU in a display. Very easy very SAFE. I started with 4 IU and worked up to 12IU. No problem getting hold of it up North. JR  | ||

bro you may want to hold off insulin for right now, if you have to ask this question, you need to read more, no flame, but most start with 5ius in AM and 5ius after workout and increase it by 1iu every second day until they are taking 10-12ius AM and 10-12 ius after workout. | ||

Insulin pins. Make sure you research insulin before you use it. YOU MUST TAKE OTHER PRECAUTIONS TO USE IT SAFELY. I've posted on it a number of times if you wanna search. As for dosage I started at 2iu subcut. then increased by 1iu after each workout until I got up to a max dosage of 7iu. I tried 8 twice and both times started the early stages of going hypoglycemic, cold sweat, dizziness etc. Peoples sensitivity can vary tremendously. | ||

very common misconception..when people say they are taking 2iu's they mean they arew taking 20iu's. take it from someone with a degree in medical technology. 2iu's would be .02 of a 1cc syringe. 1cc is 100iu's so 2ius would be almost impossible to measure. start at 10ius which is the .1 on a insulin syringe and it is 1/10 of a cc and go up accordingly but be careful, insulin is nothing toi mess with. | ||

no, jay2876145235, no!! you're wrong, sorry! the PEN is 100% accurate. if you turn the knob for 1 IU and press the "button" only ONE (1), not fucking TEN (10) IU:s will come out!! i dated a diabetic chic for 4 years, so yes, i'm sure about this! help me guys with this one, so anyody won't kill themselfs! 1ml = 100iu. An insulin pin holds 1ml and has 100 notches along its barrel. How hard can that be to figure out? | ||

an insulin pin will hold 100 ius = 1CC which is enough to kill anyone. Jay is right on this one. However, as stated (must have been misread by some) there is a device called and Insulin Pen (not pin - I spelled it properly) It is like an ink pen (only bigger) that you can draw up a pre-measured doseage from a vial stored inside the pen. And yes, it is accurate. | ||

Thanks guys for all the replies, I just thought 1 ml is so damn small amount that it�s impossible to get an accurate dose using an insulin syringe. | ||

If you get slin that is 100 units per ml, then get U-100 insulin syringes. It will hold 100 units(iu's). The pins are marked 10, 20, 30, etc. The 10 is 10 iu's. Then you have 4 little lines between 10 and 20 and etc. Each little line represents 2 iu's. Don't use a U-50 pin with U-100 insulin. You can but just be good at your math. ------------------ | ||

Lawnsaver is wrong above.. Guys this is really simple. 100iu = 1cc, so 1cc=100iu. So if you wanted to inject 10iu that would be 1/10th of a cc, which is easily identifyable on a insulin syringe. Above lawnsaver is saying that an insulin syringe only holds 10iu which would be 1/10th of a cc. That would be a tiny ass barrel. Damn, this is not that hard. Just get a few bags of B-D 1/2cc insulin syringes when you buy your insulin. 1/2cc = 50iu. Each one of the 50ius are marked by a line on the barrel. You can easily draw up what you need exactly. Starting with 2iu and working up is fine. Everyone reacts differently. |
