Ok.. wednesday I had a very intense leg workout. I almost quit at 5 reps when I was doing 405 but I kept going for 8 w/ a spotter. Ok.. by the time I got to my 7th rep, I had a terrible throbbing pain in the back of my head. I got 1 more rep in and fell down on the bench on my back it hurt so bad. Since Wednesday, everytime I lift any weight or strain I get a terrible pain in my head.. anyone ever had this happen??? I can't do anything w/o having a terrible sharp pain in my head!!!

I'm gonna take a guess that you're havin the same problem I'm having with my chest.
I believe you were straining so hard that you prolly gritted your teeth. There are muscles in your head that you might have flexed so hard that you pulled one, unless it is a pain on the inside of your head, then you may want to get it checked out
if you think it's just a muscle in your head try squeezing your teeth together and see if the muscle that comes back from your temple hurts. If so just take it easy until the pain goes away, that means no lifting, but a doc never hurts.

bro- I get the same shit sometimes!! I remember reading a long time ago about someone posting asking about the same pain. I have had it happen to me twice. The first time it only lasted about a week. The second time which was only a few months ago lasted for about 2-3 fucking weeks.

I have racked my brain trying to figure it out. It only happens when I strain myself. Lifting hurts like shit. Orgasms make it hurt too.

Are you taking a thermogenic right now or have you currently started one? The last time I got mine I remember it had started when I had begun using zenadrine. I discontinued it but it persisted for awhile.

wait a while to see if it subsides. My father is a doc and I asked him about it. He really had no explaination. After 2 weeks I wanted to see someone about it, but my dad told me there is really nothing they are going to be able to do or say to explain your symptoms, just short of spending a shit of money and getting an MRI or the likes. and that might not tell you anything either.

If you're breathing properly I am out of ideas bro. I'm no neurologist. I like cyp too I don't know why more guys don't use it. At least you got the itchies under control. Hope it clears up for you.

That sounds a lot like a problem I had in college. I would have panicked, except that my training partner had the same problem a couple of months before. I think it's called an exertion headache, and I do believe it's the result of strained muscles in the scalp.

Now this may not be what you have, which is why you should see a doctor. However, if this is what it turns out to be, don't worry. It will eventually go away (several weeks or a couple months later). Does advil help? Ice? Those are things I'd do for strained muscles.

yeah spunky, It sucks dick bro! Its really odd, I dont understand it. The exertion headache does sound like a possibility. The pain seems like it shoots through your temples sometimes. Last time it felt in the back of my head too, about the base of the skull.

Just think, take a few days off jerking it and when you do it again you'll be able to shoot flies off the ceiling!! LOL

LOL!!

Go searching through the archived topics, there seems to be more people than we think that have had this problem. type in head pains, then try headaches.

Were you taking a stimulant or tyrosine?

I was thinking it could be the zenadrine I was taking due to the fact that it contains products that are neurotransmitters. Tyrosine one of them that controls the release of dopamine. There was one post that seemed to find tyrosine as the culprit.

Bro,
I think Doc Savage is right on....I've seen this twice in the past couple years..once my training partner got it and this past summer one of my clients got it. Both were training legs. I researched a little and there is such a thing as Exertional Headache...there was an article on it in Muscle and Fitness or Flex a couple years ago..I know that when my buddies had it...it lasted like a week and a half, but I've heard it can leave in a day or plague you for a month....they were out of commission it hurt so bad and pain relievers only slightly relieved their discomfort. To be safe, I'de make a trip to the doc..just to make sure...Good Luck bro...

Ok, it is an exertion headache, Ive had two of them. When you go to the doc, explain it all and he should give you INDOMETHACIN, you wont be able to lift for about a week or so, so dont try or you pay the price of pain.

I have had this also, along with the pain I loose my hearing for a bit also, it only happens when I squat. I figured out that it only was happening when I let my carbs get too low, are you on a low carb diet or anything like that?

nah my carbs are fine, im bulking. That makes sense though, we were all working legs when it happened, so it must be an exertion headache. If I train through it, will it still go away? Or should i just lay off completely?

looks like you where holding your breath which happens especially when you are doing very heavy sets.
You forced yourself too hard, that's for sure.
What could have happened is: a blood vessel that popped, witch is not ideal, since this happened in your head.
I don't say this was the way it went, but it sure is a possibility.
If the pain stays, best is to see a doc.

I know when I hurt my back I had terrible headaches anytime I flexed. Didn't hurt to turn my head or move just when I flexed. It turned out to be muscle spasms and the doc said from the size and strength of my back it caused me to feel like someone was crushing my head. I didn't even feel the spasms but it sure hurt like hell..

This same exact thing happened to me about a year ago. I was doing squats and right after I finished my last set it felt like my head was going to explode, like an intense pressure at the base of my skull. It went away in about an hour and then would come back if I tried to whack off or if I was getting laid. I tried to train through it but it would come on so bad in my first set I would have to stop. So I laid off training until it went away completely, it took about 3 weeks.
I would give it a couple weeks and if it doesn't get better, go see a doc.

Throbbing pain that increases with internal pressure is often vascular in nature. Depending upon the severity it can be a medical emergency. In any event it requires seeing a doctor and probably getting an arteriogram. Big guy at a gym I used to go to startled the hell out of us when the bar fell on him while doing bench. He was dead before it hit him; cerebral aneurysm. He once complained of headaches. Not to worry you my brothers, but get it checked out. Peace!

momwarndu: It is mainly in the back of my head but the longer I continue to strain the more it spreads.. it eventually spreads down the back of my neck and it gets hard to even move because the pain is unbearable. I am going to try training tommorow and see if the weekend rest helped any. If it still hurts I dunno what im gonna do.. im in the middle of a cycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =( I can't take 2-3 weeks off.. Only thing I can think of doing is alot of cardio and light weights and turn this into a cutting cycle halfway through.. =(

There is basically one muscle that runs across the entire scalp all the way to the back of your neck. Severely strained traps could easliy manifest themselves in headaches across the scalp or temples. Since it's easy to strain your traps by squatting, based on your symptoms, this would be my semi-educated guess. If it is a strained trapezius muscle, the worst thing you could do would be to continue to train. Additional stress will only increase the damage, further weaken the muscle, increase the necessary healing time, and decrease the chances of full recovery. Better to take a few weeks off now, than to be forced to take months or years off later. It might seem like a big sacrifice, but, believe me, in the long term, it's only a couple of weeks.
