I have done very well and prefer 3-4 Whey MEAL REPLACEMENTS per day along with 3 -4 meals per day. the drinks are easier in a busy day and quicker. have had no problems but htese are emal replacemenst not just protein. you also need to make sure you calories are good thus adding meals as well. love isopure

I usually split my protein source between the protein drinks and protein bars. You still need to eat plenty of protein rich foods to help you with your gains.

Although the drinks are high quality they
cannot completely replace the effect of
real quality food. The best thing to do
is eat as much real food as possible and
add meal replacements and / or protien
drinks when you want a quick meal and
you don't have time for real food.

Juiceseeker:

There's no reason you can't use whey protein powders as your exclusive source of protein. There are no sources of protein that are higher in quaity and bioavailability than a good whey, and they are cost-effective too.

The main problems here are, as the other brothers have noted, overall calories and, even more important, fiber! You only use whey protein, man, and you are gonna be one freakin' constipated motherfucker! Oversupplementing with protein degrades kidney function and exacerbates constipation to begin with, so you want to make sure you're eating plenty of veggies and fruits along with the whey powder.

Good luck, bro. Be well, be happy, and lift heavy.

Bjaarki, I agree with all that youve said, afterall there are many vegitarian BB's in our ranks, but does excessive protein really tax the kidneys as you stated? Yes I am aware that individuals with kidney disfunction are placed on low protein diets, but that does not necessarily mean that protien taexes normally functioning kidneys.
p.s. hows that back feeling?

Real foods also have pytochemicals, which are not in powders and are essential for proper human function.

As long as you are taking in a high quality multivitamin/mineral a couple times per day you can live on meal replacements. When your body breaks it down in the stomach into all the separate nutrients it doesn't matter. As long as you are getting a good combo of macronutrients (carbs, fats, proteins) you will do fine. Anyone who says you can't do it has never done it before. I have lived on the damn things for months at a time and the only thing that happened to me is I got bigger than anyone else - and that was in my pre-anabolic days.

Here's what I do. To avoid eating 16 chicken breasts a day, I eat NORMAL people amounts of meat, fish, etc...Then add 240-300 grams of whey protein per day.

A supplement is a supplement. Food is food and it is food that will make you grow. Use the wieght gainers/mrp's to get some extra calories down but dont solely reply on them.

It's a lot more satisfying to eat real food. I'll take solid foods over liquids any day.

I understand where your coming from.But I
would say you need atleast 2 solid meals a
day. That & alot of whey protein & training hard will
get you gains. For fiber I use metamucil 1 or 2 times a day.

Tronco:

Thanks for the holler, man. My back is still sore, but I hope to be back for at least a half-assed arm workout by Sunday. This week has really sucked being out of the gym, lemme tell you.

Yes, excessive protein is hard on the kidneys, which are a very complex filter designed to excrete excess fluids and salts but retain proteins and sugars. They are "designed" to handle relatively low levels of protein (low by BB standards, anyway), and much above that level adds some stress. I doubt, though, that any level of protein supplementation that any of us use would ever reach the level where real renal impairment occurs unless you have some other pathological process going on (like diabetes) so your point is well taken, and maybe I should not have made that point to Juiceseeker.

Again, the main problem with MRPs (and I use them daily) is they can render you MUCHO constipated. I mean so bad you got to dig those nuggets out with a screwdriver! Not for me, bros. Pass the celery.

Lift heavy, brothers.

To many of you people think to highly of supplements. The only way you people will get big is if you eat, eat, eat. People ask me every day, what supplement should I take. I tell them to fuck off because Im sick of the ignorance.
