I read a lot about water weight gain during cycles and without knowing a lot about it, it seems like you could just take a low dose of diuretics during a cycle to keep the water down.

But no one talks about this. Is there something about my thinking that is not right?

Extra water retention in the muscles and joints always means more strength. Muscles are 70% water and therefore if there is any form of dehydration, even slight, it will affect performance.

mild potassium sparing diuretics are fine to use to shed water weight while your on. Drink plenty of H20 ,throw in some fresh fruit .
But, aside from a kidney disfunction , the main culprit causing retention is usuallly estrogen or progesterone , so blocking aromatization of androgens can solve most if not all your H20 retention problems (nolva, proviron , arimidex, clomid )and you can save the diuretcis for showtime .

BigWh1ty hit the nail on the head as well as everyone else. You are going to need that water for strength and joint support. Water retention comes from the aromitization of the androgens into estrogen which in turn causes water retenton. The use of an aromitaize(sp?) inhibitor will stop the estrogen either at the root or an anti estrogen will block it. This will prevent water retention. The water weight will go away once the cycle is complete and hormone levels stableize. This is where the imediate post cycle traumatic weight loss comes from. I don't understand why water retention is such a big issue and why this imediate loss of weight is so traumitizing to some. The bloat will go away and once you loose some of that water you will ultimately look better.
