He said that 0 is the lowest on the scale,
and 42 is the highest. Mine is a 71, 29 above
42. Should I be worried? I do not know about
parameters and what not, I just need to know
if this is safe? Now, if 0 to 42 is normal,
is not 43 and up abnormal? Please help...
Is 71 dangerous?

The term "liver function tests" and its abbreviated form "LFTs" is a commonly used term that is applied to a variety of blood tests that assess the general state of the liver and biliary system. there are 2 general categories of liver enzymes (alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and the aspartate aminotransferase (AST)) and different tests check different enzymes. You need to find out which test your doctor is talking about.

The ALT and AST are enzymes that are located in liver cells and leak out and make their way into the general circulation when liver cells are injured. The ALT is thought to be a more specific indicator of liver inflammation, since the AST may be elevated in diseases of other organs such as the heart or muscle. In acute liver injury, such as acute viral hepatitis, the ALT and AST may be elevated to the high 100s or over 1,000 U/L. In chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis, the elevation of these enzymes may be minimal (less than 2-3 times normal) or moderate (100-300 U/L). Mild or moderate elevations of ALT or AST are nonspecific and may be caused by a wide range of liver diseases. ALT and AST are often used to monitor the course of chronic hepatitis and the response to treatments, such as prednisone and interferon.

Again, go back and find out what specific test and for which enzyme, your doctor is talking about. Don't be afraid to ask him questions. For one thing, you want to know not just the normal range, but also what range classifies as acute, moderate, or severe liver disease.

Also, I think you need to should continue to monitor your liver and check back with your doctor regularly.

In the meantime, I would say that the slightly elevated levels you posted are to be expected while using steroids (especially orals -- I think this is what mike arci means by a 17 drugs) and might last for several months after coming off.

I dont think it will be anything to worry about. Most of the Liver damage associated with AS use occurs in theraputical doses. For example, a patient treated with oxymeth at 60mg/day for 3YEARS! Or a person treated with methyltest at 150mg/day for 7YEARS!. These occur in treating blood disorders or hypopituitaryism etc.
In most of these LONG term incidences, the tumors are benign and will regress upon withdrawl of the AS. Carcinomas are VERY rare and i doubt will occur with the average 6 week 30mg/day dbol cycle.

well bigrand, maybe you're right but i think stayng away from the 17 aa is a good idea to preserve your liver , since there are lots of powerfull drugs that are not 17 aa.

Fener,

I get you, but if you only take 1 17aa at a time for a limited time, you shouldnt worry about anything. Its when people stack large amounts of abombs and dbol for a long time that you can have problems.

if those are ur sgot counts , dont worry.. if ur liver is damaged, if it would be in thousands (in hepatitis cases) even alcohol can cause that raise in that liver count.

Yes, my SGOT is a 71 H

The Dr. said that is high because it is over
0-42, which are the normal ranges.
