I'm about to mail order some products for the first time.
I have a coupla "guides" for how to do this, but still some specifics are not addressed, so I did do my homework before posting. If this is a completely stupid post, I'll delete.
I do not own my own home and am not home during regular postal delivery hours.
a) I do not want to put anyone with whom I share living arrangements at risk
b) Should I get a P.O. Box instead?
I know not to sign for deliveries.

You live in USA or Europe? Do not give your own name out. Something like FAO is much better. Dont sign for it using your real name. The person FAO is your friend or whatever. Dont open it for 2-days. Anything else im sure others know more. I can legally order as so I dont have problems.

Just put a fake name on it......Just don't sighn for anything.....at least I wouldn't..All in all I am willing to bet you will have no problems real name or not if you are ordering domestic,,,If overseas deffinatly use a fake name,,,when you get the siezure letter ( which you might not) you are not linked to buying the subsatance

Sorry to seem so dense, but I just haven't found this info elsewhere.
It is best to make it "FAO" my housemate? And just let my housemates know that any parcel so labeled is meant for me?
Thanks for your patience.

What about using a P.O. Box? Do they make you sign for all packages?

Weapon:

Get a USPS PO box (not a mailboxes, etc). Have the products shipped to "boxholder" -- no, you don't have to sign. Get the largest box available otherwise they will hold the packages at the counter (if they won't fit) -- in which case you still don't have to sign.

You will have to show your ID to get the box but that is no big deal. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! It is very much appreciated!!

P.S. - Why not use MAilboxes etc. or a similar commercial service?

Because they will make you sign at times, plus, it's more expensive, plus, it's just another level of people who handle the package.

Is using "boxholder" a better bet than adding a fake name or company name to the box list?

Good points all.
I'm just nervous about walking onto Federal property to pick up my mail.

Mailboxes etc. is a rip-off at 20 bucks a month and the owners are very nosy. USPS P.O. does seem better than them...

But Federal regulations do govern the USPS, right?
Well, the info helps and I'll take the suggested course of action.
Thanks, bros!

I think boxholder is more generic and it works, so why not?

X -- the package still has to go through the USPS system to get to a commercial service anyway.

I agree......i went into mailbox etc. and the guy who was giving me the information on how much the boxes ran was acting very suspicious of me even being in there. I only asked how much the boxes ran per month, and he was giving me the weird eye. Maybe i was just being paranoid, but i was acting normal as hell.......maybe it was the thickness of my shirt? I dunno.....
