I was doing barbell shrugs yesterday, and I had a little too much energy, went too fast and fucked up my back. Now i can barely do anything let alone work out. This really sucks. i don't know what to do with myself if i can't go to the gym!
Anybody ever do this? Any suggestions on what to do for recovery? It seems now that the pain is primarily in my lower lat. What the hell!? Need help bros...

well you need to get some anti-inflamatories, and stay off your feet and back for about a week, if that doesnt help you might need to go to the doc, you probably pulled you lower dorsi, which is a bitch, when doing shrugs, unless you are on a shitload of steroids dont do heavy shrugs, reps is fine, i use to do shrugs with 405 for reps, but now all I have to do is 135 for reps, be careful.

get your back checked out by a qualified person. I am still recovering from a lower back injury from the Turkey Bowl last year and it has not been much fun. It has basically made it almost impossible for me to get a good nights rest anymore because I cant sleep in a comfortorable position. If you have access to a good doctor and/or some P/T use it and use it correctly. Good luck

Marine, I just went through an injury as well. Mine was non-excercise related (motorcycle crash). I had very badly bruised ribs. Definately get some rest. I tried working out while recovering and it has really slowed down the healing. I finally stopped working out and it is feeling much better now. I was on my last week of a cycle when it happened, so yeah, I didn't want to stop either. Here's how I look at it: The quality of my training was shitty and I was aggravating the injury. Rest and when you come back your muscles will get shocked by the change. Besides, most of us overtrain anyways, a little extra rest is probably good. Good luck bro.
