I had one between L4-L5. Once is enough for me. After one week my left quad had lost 1.6 inch (4 cm) compared to the right one.

2 bulging disks (L3-L4, L4-L5), but none herniated yet (knock on wood). These do suck. For brothers with the same problem I can offer this advice; traction will help relieve and repair the bulging, and TENS will take away the pain without drugs pretty well. Peace!

10 years ago i blew my disc between L4/L5.
I was 28 years old. I was out of shape had been married at that point for 7 years. Doc said I don't want to cut you. He said you have got to strengthen your mid section. This got me started in weight training. The first 5 years i was kinda lost. However the last 5 years my knowledge has grown and so have I. I train very hard in all lifts. If I lay off very long I get sore in my back.
This past year I competed as a middle weight in 3 shows i'm now 39 years old and kicked some ass on stage.

Thanks, bros! the doc told me that I was too young to be cut at 28. I gues he's right. Do you guys take special precautions before lifts?

I had c-5, c-6 removed about 10 years ago and a fusion with my own tissue removed from my illiac crest( hip pointer bone).
I also have a bulging L 4-5 and have to be very strict when squating heavy. I am 37 and in the best shape of my life. Listen to your body, if it does not feel right, don`t push it that day.

I have a bulged disc at the L1.sometimes it pinches the nerves that are near it and makes it hard to do any back or legs, but I agree traction really helps.

Hey Loco71, another Chi town boy! I had the exact same problem you did. It took almost a year to fully recover and even to this day I occasionally get some pain. I just try and work around it.

I have two. I never did deadlifts because of them, just assuming that I couldn't. About a year ago, I decided to start doing them really light. Now I'm deadlifting 6 plates for reps, and pulling 365 stiff-legged from a foot tall block off the floor. I do abs like a madman too. I occasionally get some problems back there, but nothing like it used to be. With strong mids you can work through it. Consider it another reason to work harder. Good luck bro.
