Some problems with this idea: 1.) Very yellow skin. DNP is also used as a dye, and this is not a golden tan color either, but banana yellow. 2.) DNP acts on the mitochondria. Fat cells have little mitochondria, whereas skeletal muscle contains the most next to cardiac tissue. Oral administration gets the drug to the muscle cells and acts on these mitochondria not fat cells. 3.) Greater risk for allergic dermatitis. I think that DNP is acting as a hapten, much like urushiol from poison ivy. DNP by itself does not illicit an immune reaction, but attach it to a protein and it now becomes an antigen. | ||
