I need some help with my Micro unknown tests. I have a test tube with 2 organisms present within it. The first I found to be a nonenterococcus organism. The second I am unsure of. I think it is Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, but I do not know for sure. As you may remember, I had Mono not too long ago, and I missed a lot of class at the beginning of the quarter. During this time is when we covered this organism. Anyway, I am almost sure this is what I have, but I need to know if any other tests should/could be performed to be totally certain. This is what I have done so far: 1. Inoculated a MacConkey agar plate with the two organisms. Since this plate only grows gram negative organisms, I know that the nonenterococcus is not present. The plate has that "grape/tortilla" smell. 2. Oxidase test: Positive results. 3. Gram (-) Enterics tests: *Simmon's Test: Positive *TSI Slant Test: No change or K/K *Urease Broth test: Negative *Phenylalanine Deaminase Slant test: Negative *Decarboxylase Tests: *Indole Test: Negative The results of these tests all point to the Aeruginosa organism, but is this enough? Should I do anything else? or is this enough to confirm this organism? Is there any other steps/tests I should perform to make sure it can not be any other organism? How do I know this is Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, and not another Pseudomonas species? Hope this is not asking too much from you, but I have to be sure on this, and I figured you could help. Thanks. By the way, to the mods that screen the boards, I did not know where to post this, so I did it here. If you could so kindly not remove it from this board until I get a reply, then it would be appreciated. I would have just e-mailed cockdezl, but I have no idea of what his address is. |
