I've got various injuries that make balls to the wall training almost impossible. My question is if I train in a very strict, slow style where I'm more concerned with feeling the weight and not as concerned with the amount of weight, will I still grow as much from a gear cycle? Maybe I'll grow more b/c the muscle will recv greater focus? I think lactic acid comes into play more training slower. Any comments?

In my opinion its not always the amount of weight you can put up, its the intensity you put behind it.

Im not talking necessarily about training slower, but lighten up on the weight with higher reps, and good form and focus, I would not see why you wont gain.

I'm with wcp on this.I never deadlift to failure cause my back popped out once.I have the bar in the yard and do some reps everyday. Now the light easy reps are heavier then my old single records. The most important thing is not to quit, and if you are hurt you got to quit so don't hurt yourself.Maybe you won't be a great powerlifter, but you can build great strength and size with consistant safe effort.Truth be told, trying to hard and getting hurt is a serious inpediment to progress for many lifters, they'd do better more laid back.I do a lot of subfailure lifts.

isolation is the key my friend. focus and train one muscle at a time. use alot of cables. free weights are great and i love them but i always get better pumps when i do slow isolated movements per body part. its all in the focus. MM

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes it takes more strength to not add weight to the bar then to increase your focus and slow the rep speed. Grrr. Peace

The "best" routine is the one you are currently not on.

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It realizes that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It realizes that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve to death.

The moral?

It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running.
