I'm having a hard time gaining muscle, losing fat, and I tend to gain fat in the thighs, hips, and ass (slight pear-shape). Any suggestions? Stats: Male, 30 years old, 175lbs, 5'11" Thanks for any suggestions. ------------------

You arn't going to add muscle and loose fat at the same time(naturally). In order to gain muscle mass you MUST consume more calories than your body uses. In order to loose fat you MUST consume less calories than your body uses. You need to fuccus your efforts on either gaining muscle mass or loosing weight. One or the other. In both situations DIET is the most important factor in determining your success. If you are trying to loose weight your cardio and your restricted calorie diet will hinder your strength with the iron. Most of the time muscle is lost when one goes about loosing weight. Unfortunatly the body will use muscle to meet its energy requirements. This is why you can't gain muscle and loose weight at the same time. Protein intake must be kept high to spare muscle proteins from being used to carry out daily body tasks. As far as your pear like appearance, that's genetic. You have no controll over that. It could also be genetic that you can't loose any more weight. Post more specific question and you will find the answers you seek. ------------------

Specifically: Can I through training, eating, and supplementing reduce the lower body fat and attain a V-shape or am I doomed to always have a slight pear-shape (it's not that my hips and legs are abnormally large, it's just that I seem to accumulate fat there which is hard to reduce)?

Your fat distribution is completely genetic. Your body is pre-programed to where it will store its fat. You can't change this. You also can't just loose fat in these areas. Again it is genetically programed where you body will take the fat from. So you can't just loose fat in those areas. The best you can do is just concentrate on loosing weight. Proper diet, proper training and the fat will get used to a certain point. After you loose so much fat your body won't want to loose anymore. It unfortunately will relly on the muscle tissue to support body functions and energy requirements. It will hold on to some fat for survival purposes. It's biological and agian you have no control over this. But again it's all about diet. ------------------

I've read Lyle McDonald's Ketogenic diet book and he suggested that a ketogenic diet and/or yohimbe may help the body burn fat from stuborn areas. Anyone out there who can verify?

You could definately try a keto diet. Just make sure you stick with it and do it right. Have you tried an ECA stack yet? I don't think yohombie does a whole lot. Never really had any great effects on me. Just make sure you know how the keto diet works and you know what you're doing. ------------------

Thanks for the advice. Tried an ECA stack once for a couple of months. Didn't really see much of a difference in body comp and weight.

I agree with the other guys about genetic distributions but I have an idea. Maybe if you use an anti- estrogen might help as the places where you are getting fat are female pattern fat deposits areas. So perhaps your estrogen level and or receptors are causing some of the eproblem. Just a thought.

Which would be better? Nolvadex or Clomid. BTW: Has anyone used my-----medications.com?

Keto diet, ECA, Yohmb. and use 2 tablespoons Prep-H - add 1 cap of Triax and 1 cap of Adipokinetix. Smear it on and wrap in saran wrap. ------------------ The moral? It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running.

I kind of agree with beezer. You will have to calorie restict to lose fat and then it will come off where it pleases.I get a beer belly, you get thighs, whatever.Calorie restict is the only way.If we all looked like Arnold he'd be just anyone. My best tip is to put an O bar in your yard and do a little deadlifting everyday, except after leg day.I think this improves metabolism, like jogging or doing a sprint.Just do a few easy sets of deadlifting.

quote: This is going to sound unexpected, but: INCREASE YOUR FAT INTAKE! You need to be eating closer to 20% of your total cals. from fat. If you don't get enough fat in you diet, you won't burn off the fat stores in your body. Also, you might want to up the protein a bit, too.

theking... Man do understand your pain! I have the same endomorph type problems. I agree with almost everything the other bros said except about losing weight and building muscle at the same time. Breezer I think you are right on except that I have accomplish the two at the same time. I think the key is the timing of your meals and cardio. For example... Cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomache w/ECA stack and most of your carbs for breakfast and lunch and then lift with at least two hours after a meal then hit 20-30 minutes of cardio right after the weights with a good MRP right after and a meal high in protien and low in carbs and hour after the shake. Also I think you have to have plenty of good fats in your diet. If have any questinos on specifics shoot me and email. Best of luck... KoRnfed

Thanks for the advice KoRnfed. How much cardio during the week and how many calories a day (should it be at maintenance or lower)? The Shadow, where can I get more info on this Prep-H cocktail?

Try Ironman magazine archives under Dan Duchaine. He wrote about this just before he passed away. ------------------ The moral? It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running. |
