I understand the reason for taking insulin directly after a workout. I was just wondering, though, if there would be any benefit in taking an insulin dose when you wake up in the morning, being your extremely sore from your previous workouts. Since you've got these sore muscles, would the insulin still transport (protein, amino acids, etc.) taken after the insulin injection to your sore muscles, thus helping recuperate those burned out muscles? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I used it first thing so that I would get more out of my food during the day. Just make sure you get the short acting types so that you are back to normal by the time you work out. Having low blood sugar during training can be especially dangerous as training will cause it to drop further. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Unless you have to ability to eat whenever you want, stick with it as a post workout thing. If you dont have access to food or carbs it could be dangerous ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Whoa...it just hit me. About to add slin to my program in the next week or two. I usually work out in the evening, like about 3 hours before bed so I can eat 2x after I workout. Do I need to look at changing my workouts to earlier in the day? I work out in my garage so as winter approaches this will probably take place anyway. Thanks B True ![]() ![]() ![]()

I wouldnt take insulin 3 hours before I went to bed. It takes like 6-8 to get totally out of your system, you could have a hypoglycemic episode in your sleep, fuck that. Work out earlier. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If its humalin R I think it peaks at about 2 hrs but could still be active in your system while you sleep. If you work out and use it after, I'd work out earlier or stay up later. One of the signs of going hypoglycemic is feeling tired so I'd stay awake for at least 4 hours. I have used humalog which is supposed to be even faster acting than HumalinR. It's supposed to peak at 1/2 hr. and be out of the system in 3 hrs., although I would still stay up 4. I had carbs (maltodextrin) all day long mixed in water with my vits. I'd usually have more in my workout drink, then 10g carbs per iu of slin immediately after the shot. This was usually with my protein drink mixed with creatine. Apparently the insulin buffers the aminos/creatine into the muscle more efficiently. I'd then go home and eat a meal about half an hour after working out and again before I went to bed. As I mentioned before I also would use it in the morning. You can only do this with shorter acting insulins. If you try it with longer or mixed preparations then it can be in your system constantly. Many people believe that this is what can lead to you contracting diabeties through its use. I only use it for about 5 weeks tops (mid cycle) for the same reason. If you aren't sure of the exact peak times of your particular insulin then do a search. Try Lilly website or some of the many others, you won't believe how many diabetic websites there are. Start on a small amount as people have very different levels of insulin sensitivity. I started at just 2iu. I then increased by 1iu each day. I managed to get up to 8iu but felt the effects and dropped to 7iu. This I feel is the right amount for me. Also make sure you've allways got some glucose or sugar to hand just in case you start to feel the effects. You can go into hypoglycemia very quickly. I had two episodes, once when I went up to 8iu and again when I had to stay a bit later at the gym. The owner had asked me to lock up as he had to leave early then I ended up giving someone a lift home. I didn't eat straight away when I got in and felt it coming on whilst I was cooking. I get a light headed feeling. It's kinda like the feeling you get when you get drunk, get in bed and the room starts to spin, only you're not drunk so you know what's going on. After about 30 seconds of this my whole body sweats and I feel tired. When this happened I immediatelty took the dextrosol tabs dissolving them under my tongue as fast as I could and washed this down with a bottle of lucozade. Within 5 mins I would feel fine again but it's a scary feeling. If you can trust someone enough who will be with you after the shot it's a good idea to let them know what to do if you end up colapsing. They should phone an ambulance immediately and if they can give you sugar/glucose they should. If you are unconscious this could be dangerous as you may choke. They should inform medical staff that you have taken insulin. Don't worry about keeping it a secret from them, it could mean the difference between life and death. I know I've gone on a bit with this thread but if bros are gonna use insulin then they should research and do it properly. It is not wise to take a 'more is better' attitude with this drug. Hope I've been of some help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
