I constantly have a feeling of pins and needles from my shoulder to my finger tips not to mention a loss in strength when I do bis and shoulders. Does anyone know what kind of injury this sounds like or have something similar to it. If I can't lift I may just lose my mind all together. I've not missed more than 7 or 8 workouts in the last 2 years, It is the only thing that keeps me sane anymore.....

The soonest the orthopedic surgeon can see me is on Nov 15th. I'm worried that I could be doing more damage lifting. I'm just finishing up a 2 month cycle of sust and eq. I made solid gains but if I have to stop lifting now I can kiss them all goodbye.

It could also be compression of the sixth disk in your neck....presses on the nerves and you lose strength and feeling down teh front bicep forearm and thumb...gentle neck traction..sleeping with a towel rooled like a hot dog under your neck..see a PT or a chiropractor ------------------ Omnia Praeclara Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Base - I'm a senior athletic training student...dealt with this stuff a lot in the past 2 years...I'de really need a better history and more info. to do a good evaluation but I can tell you there is some definite nerve involvement....the pins and needles is called paresthesia and the subsequent weakness is also an indicator....there are tons of possibilites...impingement syndrome....cervical nerve problems..etc...go to a good PT or orthopedist.....in the meantime, be real careful training cause with paresthesia and accompanying weakness..your body will be trying to compensate during your lifts...putting secondary muscles under tons of undue stress and leaving you open to further and worse injury.....Good luck Bro....

Drizzt88 is right about what this is; a parathesia. Nerve root comprssion at the cervical spine would probably have more symptoms. You could have a friend perform a compression-distraction test on you. Sit up straight in a chair and have your friend press down straight on the top of your head, gradually, but forceful. An increase in symptoms is a positive finding for nerve root compression. Next, have the friend wrap his hands around the base of your skull and pull straight up. A decrease in symptoms is a positive finding for nerve root compression. Chances are you have thoracic outlet syndrome or a peripheral nerve entrapment. Go to a doctor and get a referral for PT. A PT eval will do more to determine your problem than talking with some doctor for 10 minutes and walking away with a script for muscle relaxants. Sorry, I hate fast-food medicine. Hope it helps email with questions. Peace! ------------------

Thanks Guys, The info you provided is very helpful. I can also tell you that the pins and needles comes on more often when I'm sitting and leaning forward. When standing it does not seem to bother me as much but still have the loss in strength. |
