Ok, I'm starting to get a little tired of taking N-Large 2 as my postworkout shake and have been considering making my own to control my intake of carb/protein ratio. What are some combinations you guys use?

How is dextrose combined with a protein source?

I use 10-12 ounces of skim milk, 1 bannana, and one scoop of Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein(Chocolate). Sometimes I use Designer Whey (Vanilla)

dextrose with a protein source is fine. to put on weight, ill use 12ounces of skim milk, a banana, two scoops of Optimum whey and throw in some peanut butter. another good option is to go out a buy chocolate-milk mix or if you want to avoid the simple sugars-opt for the sugar free variety. both will liven up the funk of the protein drinks....

1 MRP, doesn't really matter what brand unless you're going real low carbs + 1 extra scoop of a protein blend + 1 tablespoon flax oil + 1 gram vit. C + 1 banana or a can of fruit (drained) + 5-10 grams glutamine peptides + 5-10 grams creatine (depending when--on cycle, pre-contest, etc.) + 16 ounces of water and a few ice cubes...hope it helps!

they all sound good guys, I think I might try a MRP, some milk and a banana. and a little creatine and glutamine thrown in the mix. I'm just getting tired of my diet right now and all the calories, carbs, proteins, sugars, fats are just clouding up my mind.

the whole protein carb. issue is tough for some people. i have found that 2 tblspoon of peanut butter and 2 scoops of designer protein with 4 gms of l-glutamine has worked imcredible. take a month and play high fat (50-70gms) high protein(1& a half gms per each pound of b.weight). defenitly keep the carbs down (30-50 gms) i went from 180 to 202 in 12 weeks. might i add my bodyfat stayed around 10%. hope this helps.

Just take your facorite MRP, throw in a banana, glutamine,creatine,1 tbsp of flax oil, and a couple of tbsp's of Jell-o fat-free sugar-free pudding mix, then pop it into the freezer for 10 min. for some damn good pudding. Natural peanut butter is a great addition. I didn't start to gain weight until I started eating more fat.

you know freak daddy, I have contemplated using the anabolic diet (high fat and protein, low carb) but never decided to give it a try. I think I may consider trying it again. Its just another thing to have to worry about, counting and staying away from the carbs.

believe me clemdog, it can be a pain watching carbs. in the long run though it has been well worth the dedication it has taken not to eat every carb in sight. if you decide to try it out,i hope it is successul for you. gotta roll, gotta grow!!!

Don't consume fat in your post workout meal as it will slow down the absorbtion of the protein and carbs.

I usually grab a Mass Recovery or XXL (if I'm bulking) at the gym.

Try fast digesting proteins and carbs after your workouts! This is the best time to take advantage of your body's hormonal conditions while taking in supra-amounts of nutrients. This should not be a time that you consume fats and other slow releasing nutrients (I am assuming this is for bulking and not for cutting). Can you get away with eating these slow releasing nutrients? Yes, but why not take advantage of the situation and go for optimal results.

The best carbs for the job are liquids that contain fast/high GI ratings. This could be Ultra Fuel, Grape Juice, or Dextrose. As far as protein goes, try whey protein and water. Then about an hour or 2 later have a bowl of corn flakes and nonfat milk (add whey if you want).

How much should you consume after a workout differs between each and every individual on this board, and if asked, then you would have about 50 different answers (or more). But, since I am giving my opinion here, then I might as well tell you what has worked for me. I take in around 30-50% of my daily caloric intake for protein, and I take in 1.5 X my bodyweight in kg. So this comes out to be around 105 grams of whey and 140 grams of HIGH GI CARBS. (I take me whey with water).

One last note here, milk has a slow digestion rate with a GI of 32 (or 46 depending on which table you use).

at 19 yrs old with 4 years training, 2 competeing, should I be going from 1 to 1.5-2g protein per pound, or should I stay? I think I'm going to now try adding flax oil and PB to my shakes, see if it gives me a couple pounds.

Isopure vanilla into 2 cups of milk with a scoop of creatine, glutamine and my multi-vits.

Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It realizes that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve to death.

The moral?

It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up - you had better be running.
