Does anybody know how legitimate this is. a lot of over seas sources use carbon paper to wrap the Gear, to protect the packages from being x-rayed by customs. does Carbon paper distort/block the X-rays used by customs???

Yes stapples and not really, it may blur the machine but not disguise the ultimate picture.

Good question. But I'm looking at it this way if it can see though metal containers and other various materials why wouldn't it be able to penatrate this. Actually I will call a freind of mine now how is an x ray tech and ask him he should have the anwer. If not will be back at work in a few days so I will get back to u guys on this one.

Well gentlemen, I just got off the phone with my freind who is an x-ray tech for many years now(going over 25 that is), and he has informed that carbon paper does in fact distort the object that it is wrapped around, but does not totally make the object invisable to the x-ray. Example given--If u were to take a CD(4 distinct edges) and wrap the CD in the carbon paper and shoot a film of it, it will lose it distinct edges, u will be able to tell that there is something there but it will blend into the film. Hope this helped a little guys MEDIC

Carbon paper is much better for sending cash in the mail (which is dumb, but I understand some brothers do it). Peace! ------------------

I think it is worth it, I mean customs x-rays 100s of packages daily, if carbon paper will make it so that some amps or vial look like they are globs on the screen of an x-ray machine, then cool. only the packages that get flagged by dogs or have been seen by x-ray to contain contraband are opened, the Dogs don't pick up gear scent and the x-rays show inconclusive (w/carbon paper), I think it betters your chances of the stuff getting thru.

Western union is whats dumb! Mail, as long as it has tracking, (express is better! but waive the signature on it) is good. Just cover it up in a card or a magazine or something, so it cant be seen if held up to the light. Slopain

and who will send money in a package ?? seems dumb enough yo me !! anyway what about aluminuim foil papers ?? do it have the same effect as the carbon papers ??

A lot of cash gets stolen out of the mail, all I was saying. If the source can deny receiving it, then he just might. And if he does sign, there is a paper trail, however slight. Am I wrong? Peace! ------------------

Guys .. I'm a physicist whose field deals with imaging, I'm not sure but I'd assume customs uses a fluroscopy (sp) type machine which uses longer wavelength x-rays as compared to normal x-ray machines people are usually familiar with. But, even with these lower energy x-rays, carbon paper will not cause "blurring" by attenuating any incident radiation. However, if u wanted to, I would get real tin foil and place amps, etc. inside tin foil which has been shaped into something which would not raise susspecion. Tin has a high enough atomic weight to cause some sttenuation of lower energy x rays. Now this is off the top of my head, but I KNOW I could determine how to shield (fuck up) the transmission of x rays which would conciel what you would be sending. Take care guys

Doc loovveee, their are CHEAP methods to have tracking and delivery of confirmation that DO NOT require signing. Even on express you can waive the signature. If the package gets there it is scanned as such, so there is no denying it. (what a source to work with though, with these fears??) There is a paper trail with anything, Western Unions is worse than reg mail. If I was going to mail say $1,000.00 's Id wrap it up in a card or magazine, send it PRIORITY (or express) with delivery of confirmation. Obviously dont put 50 20's in there, go to the bank and get 10 100's - the idea is to make it as bulk-less as possible. Include only your e-mail address (unless your source wants other info, which usually isnt a good idea) and TRIPLE CHECK that your address is correct. I can't speak for mail outside of the US, but inside you are VERY VERY safe, not alot of cash gets stolen at all. btw doc, this was info for the board, not solely directed at you, PRO! heheh Slopain |
