thats bullshit, u need to use weights. bench press is the same thing, i only do push ups at the end of my chest exercises to get more of that 'pump' i want all the blood flowing and staying in my chest. its allways good to end a day (either chest, back, arms, legs, shoulders) with an exercies with little weight but tons of reps, just do one set to failer I MEAN FAILIUR! not giving up! BUT TILL U FAIL! and ull have the best pumps in the world! ur muscles will love u for that!

actually i am in the military and pushups do help keep you in shape but doesn't make you big. it is a good exercise when you do it properly.

bro i believe push ups can build your upper body so to that comment of bullshit i say your wrong...Case point Hershel Walker dosent use weights just push ups and situps..A friend of mine that was in jail push ups and sit ups...they both have built great muscular bodies using the basics..I am not saying you can get like lee priest but yes you can grow off of Push ups.. any person who has been in the military can attest to this.

I have NOT ONCE seen a guy who went into the military with a small chest come out of boot camp, OCS, OTS, or any other military program with respectible development. Guys like Hershal Walker did alot more than push-ups. Weight room time and guidance by a strength coach is MANDATORY. And not to mention genetics to kill for, as well as whatever else was going on behind closed doors.

Pushups are a great beginers(sp). I have been doing a shit load of pushups b/c i'm going into the military... I think its a great workout if your not into bodybuilding, and if you do bodybuild, pumping out 100pushups after a chest workout is a great way to burn out.

If I can't make it to the gym on chest day I do 500 push ups at different angles -- doing each set to failure untill i reach that goal.
I must admit my chest is very sore after, along with my triceps and even my back to some degree. I don't know how much I grow from it. But a great work out in a pinch. Thats for sure--Tomo

A pushup cannot be compared to anyone using weights. A pushup brings out the lactic acid way to soon to build muscle It will make you strong and have good endurance but won't build that much muscle. Its good to do if your starting out
oppionion not fact

I use them to loosen up. You need weight to really put on size, or put plates on your back which is the same as using weight. . .Get it.

pushups, in my opinion do nothing for anything unless you use weights.
Don't put your energy in it.
Dips are far more a b e t t e r exercise and you can use weights here also.
My good advice to you is "skip the pushups" and be happy.

i am a believer in the pushup. whenever i'm away from gym for periods of time, i do pushups, to keep the chest loose. i get a great pump, and i come back to the gym stronger, in most cases.

I like push-ups. I do them at the end of my chest workouts. I find it really drives the blood into the pecs and is a nice finisher.

But, for the average person, push-ups alone will not build a great chest.

Like the winny drink or shoot debate we have here very mixed opinions. I think anything that is different then what you are used to and you put your blood and guts into it will make you better developed. If all you do is low reps heavy weight you will not get fully developed, so don't tell me that if you add high rep push ups to your work out that it won't add some progress. Works the muscles differently. And to be honest it is the number one exercise for me inregards to blowing up my chest and really feeling the muscle work.

Pushups are good if want to get a good pump.
They will not help you build mass. When doing pushups you are only using sixty to sixty-five percent of your actually body weight. Not enough weight to quality mass.
