Now, I can squat in cross trainers or whatever kind of tennis shoes, but calves are another story. I get terrible crapms in my feet when I do calves. Due to the limited range of motion of the tennis shoe, I'm sure.

I'm thinking about otomix or some kind of wrestling shoe (asic). What do you guys use?

...sorry off topic.

I prefer combat boots for squats, and sometimes for calves. It's a totally different range of motion than tennis shoes on the calves and more balance on the squats..

I got my smelly ass wrestling shoes at a sporting good store years ago.
MP...I've tried GI boots, they are actually decent, all kind of support, but I get better range with wrestling shoes

YES....i agree.....i wear Tiger asics wrestling sneakers. they are light and very versatile. they allow a greater freedom for going deep while doing calves. For squats, leg presses, etc, i prefer Otomix "Powertrainer" shoes. they have a thicker sole for squats and give you balance and very good comfort.

Nike cross trainers work just fine. I used to get into my shit kickers, for you guys not from the states, work boots. Doesn't give me much. Maybe some extra balance and ankle support, but wearing those things are like a fucking workout. I do calve exercises barefoot. Best way.

Shoes? Who the hell cares, do 'em barefoot. Just do 'em!

I wear Converse cross trainers I got on sale for like $20. Any cross trainer will do. Never thought about the wrestling shoes. I'll try 'em. I think I have a pair somewhere.

Otomix. Great grip, especially on calf exercises.
