Chicken, protein shakes, roast beef, low fat cottage cheese, salt free ham, egg whites, and fish. ------------------ "It's like mind over matter. If you don't mind... IT DON'T MATTER"

I avoid saturated fats on keto diets; saturated fats have been proven to hurt insulin sensitivity. I stuck to whey, soy protein, and drinking peanut or olive oil. Sure, eating was no fun, but my blood lipids did good and I had great results. Eggs are okay. Cheese has way too much carbs in it. Peace! ------------------

This is all good advise. You are eating way too much of the 'bad' fats by eating bacon and cheese-let alone the carbs in the cheese. You need fats in your diet but not these kinds. Stick to the leaner meats. Its not going to hurt you to eat SOME cheese just make it occasionally and read the labels. If you end craving carbs-eat those veggies-it does wonders; ex.brocolli, yams, salads, etc. Try it, you might like it! Good luck!

On a Keto diet insulin levels and blood sugar levels are to low to worry about the effects of saturated fats affecting insulin sensitivity. The only time to really make a fuss about saturated fats when in ketosis is toward the end of the week (on a CKD) right before a carb-up. At this time one might want to switch to a more "healthy" fat choice for calories. Also, maybe at the beginning when blood glucose levels are still declining before ketosis is established, but even this is something not to really sweat over, especially for those who can enter into ketosis fairly quick. Foods like spam, bacon, sausage, cheese, eggs yolks, fatty hamburger, whey and oil and heavy whipping cream, fried pork rinds, etc, etc...are all acceptable choices as long as you are consuming enough fat to protein so that gluconeogenesis does not come into play. And of course, as few carbs a possible. |
