It just hit me that I remembered that it seems like 10 years ago atheletes were using DMSO by itself of joint injuries to promote healing... is this true or just something that (as once again) I have no idea what I am talking about??? For some reason it just popped into my head...something I heard when I was younger... Thanks for any info ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Did they use it alone to treat joint injuries? Yes. Was it effective? Probably not. Any effects would probably be placebo effect. I've never seen any literature about DMSO alone being effective for joints. Peace! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yes my father and his lifting buddies were really into DMSO as a cure-all for every injury. He still swears by it even though I claim I've never felt any benefits from it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dr. Atlas...do some reasearching. Bro, it is used very heavily in college and pro level sports but keep quite. DMSO was found to be a transdermal agent but also to reduce inflamation and pain dramatically. It hasn't been studied since the 60-70's because of a poor study showing a possible link to cancer and the fact it is dirt cheap and there isn't any money to be made by the big companies. (the study used rabbits being bathed in the shit so don't worry) ANyway, to not get into the technical crap, it does work. The only thing to remember is it only helps the healing process by reducing severe edema and pain in a joint. It doesn't have true healing properties. Don't expect it to fix anything that is requiring surgery but only to help speed recovery from tendonitis, bursitis and the acute phase of sprains and strains, etc. I am an Athletic Trainer and use it on high level athletes(ONLY)that I am rehabing. If they are being scouted heavily and need to be on the field for a game I justify its use. Otherwise, I will follow typical procedures in rehab. I have personally used this product with two college players that are now in the NFL. After 2 weeks of ice, anti-imflamatories and rest, the swelling and pain of a running back's achillies tendon tendonitis was no better. DMSO was applied in the method listed below and he was back on the field with NO PAIN OR SWELLING in 3days! I have seen it work wonders. Its best if used 2-3 times/day. Clean the skin before use with alcohol and apply the DMSO. (liquid or gel) Cover the area with a sterile dressing or clean cloth(if all you have). We normally wrap the area up in a felt wrapping to keep the area warm. DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO THE AREA!!! DMSO has been know to burn people before! Anyway, 30-45min after, clean the area and thats it. You can combine it with dexa-meth or other NSAIDS but I prefer to use DMSO with oral anti-imflamatories.

DMSO it THE quick healing agent for burns. I burned my hand so bad on my harley pipe last summer that it literally grossed me out to look at it. My brother in law biologist guru gave me some 70% DMSO and 4 days later you could barely tell I'd been burned. Thought you mind find that tidbit of personal info useful. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
