Ok guys.. I use to overtrain heavily.. up until recently actually. I would workout 5-6 days a week, which for some people thats fine but I don't get alot of sleep because of school. I became very fatiqued, I was always tired, couldn't function well. As a result my lifts went down. Ok.. check this out.. Its hard to keep myself out of the gym but I have noticed huge gains in strength AND in size since I have started training like this.. I workout 4 days a week. Each week, I hit one bodypart really light or not at all, to give it complete rest until the next week. I rotate body parts like that once a week.. Like I'll work everything but Bi's/back one week and let them rest completely.. and the next week my lifts are crazy strong. I lift mon, tues, rest wed, lift thurs and friday, rest sat & sun. With all of this rest I am growing alot better then before.. I wish I would've done this earlier. =)

I was always told how important rest was.. but I never realized it until I saw the difference..

You grow when you rest...

Now I work out 4 times a week because I can't stay away.

But I can't help but feel I had better results doing a 3 day split Pull/Push/Legs.

The only problem with less frequent training is burning less calories. So you have to lower cals or do cardio not to get fat.

man its really hard to stay away from the gym, especially when you get those explosive pumps in your muscles.but that is the reason many people overtrain, they think that "hitting it hard" will do the trick.switching your routine once in a while is the best for increasing your potential.

My arms would hardly get over 15.5 inches, now both are sitting at over 16" since I have cut my training frequency down and gotten more rest, ate more food, etc..

I only work one bodypart a week...one each day. I have a five day split-

Chest
Back/legs
Shoulders
Bi's
Tri's/forearms
...and abs whenever

I only spend an hour in the gym but it is very productive and I get plenty of rest between each muscle group. I like it much better than the way I used to do it several years ago.

I agree, also working something out "lightly" in my opinion is a waste. I think you would be better off eating and resting until you can hit it hard. Atrophy will not occur while the muscle is repairing from the damage of your previous workout.
