Has anyone shredded their shoulder area or rotator cuff? I cant even put up thirty pounds in an over head press. The pain is too much. Incline bench is painfull as well. If I press on the distal end of my clavical I feel a dull pain. Any suggestions on remedies. How long does any injury like this persist. Not to mention when I swing my arm it clicks and pops!

Wish i could help you. I had Cortison in the right shoulder, but guess ? Cortison never helped me in any way. My best bet for you is, train AROUND the injury.

DO NOT USE CORTISONE INJECTIONS!!!! it will only serve to weaken your conenctive tissues, it's a temporary solution.

Go see a sports doc, i had to have my right shoulder completely repaired.

A sports doctor will say "stop training".
I say, train around the injury untill you feel better. And i have been there.

If you can find a good physio-therapist (not a chiropracter!!!) you should get in in a couple of days. I got in a car accident last christmas eve and added rotator cuff, upper chest, and both wrists to my collection of injuries. B-( I'm just getting to the point now where I can carefully lift heavyish stuff.

Get him to show you proper excercises for strengthing/stabalizing your shoulder joint and a list of what not to do--like, don't lift heavy things involving your shoulder for a few months.

Get a "shoulder horn". It is a rehabilitative piece of equipment that keeps you shoulders in line so that you can rotate light dumbbells without cheating. The cost is about $70 and can be found at shoulderhorn.com I have used it before and my bench went up about 40 lbs. It was also easier to train back then, because my infraspinatus and teres minor were tiring out before my lats were.

Thanks for the effective yet dissapointing info Bro's. Ill do my best to keep it light untill the joint is feeling better. I dont want to further aggrevate an injury. Ive also started taking glucosamine and chondritan, whether this has any affect I dont know. Ill keep you posted.

I had surgery on my shoulder 6 weeks ago. I had torn cartilage (labrum) and a bone spur. I had the same symptoms that you have. It was popping and I could barely move my arm upwards. The torn cartilage was caused (and in most cases is) by a slight separation of the shoulder. Get it looked at ASAP. GOOD LUCK!

E2 is right about the cortisone. Try to see a Osteopathic Physician (D.O) who specializes in ortho or sports med. They are usually more knowledgeable than their allopathic Physician counterparts (M.D)the on musculoskeletal system. Test your 4 rotator cuff muscles. The SITS muscles. Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor, and subscapular. If any one of these muscles fails to function the you DO have have torn rotator cuff. If it is just painful the maybe a slight tear and bursitis. And like me and many other patients of mine you will probably have to deal with it. Note there are also important ligament in the AC and GH joint that need to be evaluated. There are too hard to describe at this juncture.

E2 is on the money...I had my right shoulder completely repaired....Hurt like a muther fucker....when I started lifting again I could barely bench the bar....Talking about being depressed!!!!

DO NOT go the cortisone route...I did...It was the biggest mistake I ever made....See what the Doc says, and go from there!!!!!
