Maybe you are one of "these people!" - LOL Muscle dysmorphia Sometimes called bigarexia, muscle dysmorphia is the opposite of anorexia nervosa. People with this disorder obsess about being small and undeveloped. They worry that they are too little and too frail. Even if they have good muscle mass, they believe their muscles are inadequate. In efforts to fix their perceived smallness, people with muscle dysmorphia lift weights, do resistance training, and exercise compulsively. They may take steroids or other muscle-building drugs, a practice with potentially lethal consequences. Who gets muscle dysmorphia? Consequences of muscle dysmorphia In almost all cases, people with muscle dysmorphia is not small at all. Many have well-developed musculature, and some even compete in body building competitions. Muscle dysmorphia may be one kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder. People with this problem cannot or will not stop their excessive exercise even when they are injured. They will not give up their unhealthy steroid use even when they fully understand the risks involved. Treatment of muscle dysmorphia Family members and concerned friends may be able to persuade the person to at least get an evaluation by focusing on the problems caused by the behaviors, such as job loss, relationship failure, and physical harm. Nonetheless, about half of people with this problem are so convinced of their perceived smallness that they refuse help and continue their excessive exercise and steroid use. For those who enter treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy combined with medication holds promise. The best place to start is an evaluation by a physician trained in sports medicine. Ask for a referral to a mental health counselor who also works with athletes. After both professionals have completed their evaluations, consider their recommendations and choose a course of action that is in your own best interests. ![]() ![]() ![]()

yeah, i know what you mean. I sometimes think I am small and realize I may not be as big as i want. Then someone makes a comment like you said and i realize i am 5'9" 215lbs @ 12%BF. I guess since we see our bodies all the time we adjust to the new mass and we see it but at the same time we dont later ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For some reason I often feel small around others or small when I look in the mirror. But when I look at myself in the mirror at the gym and I am standing beside one of the guys there that I feel smaller than...suddenly I realize that I am actually much bigger than he is. Or sometimes I will see myself in pictures with people that I feel smaller than and I am actually bigger than them and that blows my mind as well. Oh well...I guess I would rather feel small and be big as opposed to feeling small and being small. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death." ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's funny...I wish I could find some way to feel totally happy about my appearance, but I wouldn't want to seek help until I have reached my goal. I would fear that then I wouldn't strive as hard to reach it. hahaha...what a catch 22. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death." ![]() ![]() ![]()

for the last 4 months ive been killing myself in the gym. for a year before that it was all taco bell and mcdonalds. im at the point now that everyone i see has something to say about me being big but the thing is i dont see myself that big. only because im not where i want to be. think about it if we all thought we were as big that people say we are then we would probably stop training cause we are "BIG". you know? this way i keep going to the gym and continue to strive for the size "I" want. byt he way im 6'1" 273lbs @ 18%BF. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
