Someone this board mentioned that they do 4-6 reps for abs with heavier weight. Last night at the gym I did 4 sets of 4-6 roman chair sit ups with a 45 lb plate and I have diarhea and I can hardly stand up straight. my abs are torn up. I can do hundreds without weight. My abs have never been so sore. Thanks.

The best way to work abs is on a swiss ball. The ball allows the greatest range of motion (allowing both full trunk extension and flexion) while supporting your lumbar spine. The trick is to get the ball just above the buttocks while arching across it completely, the do a simple crunching motion. To increase the difficulty, hold a plate to the chest, or a dumbbell to your sternum. You can do oblique crunches etc and will do a sweet job of targeting your abs without using illiopsoas (hip flexors) to cheat. Hope it helps bros. Peace!

Blaming the shits on sit-ups. That's a new one....

Using the swiss ball with a dumbell for sets of 4-6 reps is one of the best ab mass builders. If you are overly sore, then you are probably over-training. Your abs are SUPPOSED to be sore....just like your chest or quads get sore after an intense training session.

It is a machine that has you lie on your back 60 degree angle to the floor, knees bent with little "stirrups" to put your feet under for support, then you just do the situps...I did them real slow, I am going to do it every WO for the next 3 weeks then see how my abs look..

I do them for 15-25 reps with a 25lb plate held behind my head,on incline.Much better then just high reps.

I train my abs similar to biceps.... First I do some reverse crunches to try and hit the lower ab muscles... 3 sets of 10 Then I go to crunches with my head off the end of a bench with a 50lb dumbell behind my head..I concentrate on bringing my shoulders up to the ceiling..and I totally relax my arms....It took me a while to build up to the 50 pounders but my abs are hard as a rock...(now if I could get rid of the "muscle in reserve" around them..they would look good) I do 3 sets of 10 reps and the abs are on fire after each set... One question I have though..what do you guys think of weighted side bends??? I started them and can feel it working but not sure if its a good idea... Also since I started hitting my abs hard I have had no back problems from squating or deadlifting... Amazing what you learn when you get older and learn that bench presses are mostly for show... ;-)
