I was precsribed some strong antibitic called ceftin for a sinus infection. Since I strated the antibiotic ive lost 4lbs and my strenght went down, do antibiotics cause this? BTW I have not done a cycle for 6 monthes. Ive heard antibiotics put your body in an anti catabolic state is that true. ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]()

Some antibiotics can put you in a catabolic state (I know penecillin is one of them). I asked the same question in a similar post about 2 weeks ago if you do a search. My doc prescribed me some for a swelling on my lower spine and I only took 1. Once I found out that they could interfere with the course I am on I decided to try Ibuprofen first instead and it worked. Apparently some antibiotics do not interfere with the anabolic process, unfortunately I am not sure of their names. Some of the other bros may be able to help. A few bros responded saying that they'd taken antibiotics during cycles and had not noticed any difference but I'd rather be safe than sorry. From what I can gather if you are on a course in a state of anabolism the antibiotics would raise your cortisone levels putting you in a catabolic state. As this has occured without your anabolic level dropping I suppose this means you would have even more chance of going catabolic whilst being off gear. I may be wrong as this is just the result of my very recent questioning, so educate me without the flames please. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

STRENGTH, no flame, just some info. The only antibiotic that has been really shown to affect nitrogen retention is tetracycline, due to the fact that it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Although it is very specific to bacterial ribosomal subunits, there is obviously some cross reactivity with mammalian ribosomes. While negative nitrogen balance has been dmeonstrated with this drug, the same has been shown to occur with aspirin, and we know that all the users of the ephedrine/caffeine/aspirin combo are not wasting away. None of the antibiotics are known to affect corticosteroid levels. The agricultural industry uses aureomycin as a GROWTH PROMOTENT for animals, because it allows for the animal to utilize more food for energy, by eliminating alot of intestinal bacteria that would otherwise digest the food and use it for themselves. ENVY, have you had any side effects from the antibiotics, such as nausea or diarrhea? I would imagine that it is the sinus infection along with the body fighting it, that is causing the fatigue and weighloss. I have never had a sinus infection, but my wife gets them chronically, and they knock the shit out of her. Your best bet is to not train until you are healthy again (lifting suppresses immunity for awhile) and maybe get some glutamine to aid the immune system and also prevent weight loss. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cockdezl, thanks for the info. I didn't take it as a flame, just as advice. Like I said I know very little about this myself and was simply reporting what I had been told, so I appreciate the knowledge that you have given me bro. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Another problem, I've noticed with Ceftin, particularly, is that it does seem to reduce your GI bacteria. I often have a lot of trouble re-adjusting my body to the high protein associated with the bodybuilding diet, following a Ceftin course. In order to get back into gear, I usually supplement with some type of probiotic compound (which basically contains Vit C, the bacteria, and some type of nourishing carbohydrate for the bacteria to thrive in. Try it out, if you have digestion problems. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

"I usually supplement with some type of probiotic compound (which basically contains Vit C, the bacteria, and some type of nourishing carbohydrate for the bacteria to thrive in." PRIMO, this is excellent advice and I think that everyone should do this after using a course of antibiotics. Probiotics usually contain Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteriae, which are looked upon as the "good" bacteria. They compete with, and suppress the levels of harmful bacteria. Another addition to this would be green tea extract, which has been shown to reduce harmful bacteria levels while promoting the "good" bacteria, such as Lactobacilli. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
