Today was the ONLY time I didn't aspirate before injecting, and when I took out the syringe, a small stream of blood came squirting up for a split second but then stopped. This was about 3 hours ago so I;m sure I didn't hit a vein, but what the hell did I hit?? It squirted hard, but stopped right away---I figured the needle scraped a capillary or blood vessel and the 2cc put pressure on the blood until the needle was released. This is the LAST time I will ever inject without first aspirating.     | ||

Arteriole? An artery wouldn't have been so quick to stop spurting, but a capillary wouldn't have enough pressure to squirt blood. Arterioles tend to follow pretty individual patterns in people, so there isn't much hope in predicting where one will be. Just hope that the needle was past the arteriole when you injected, so that the shot was intramuscular and not systemic. Consider this one of life's gentler learning opportunities. Congrats...Your first gusher. No biggie. Mine shot out so far that I thought I was seeing things. I was so shocked that I kind of chuckled as I grabbed a towel.
