i agree. without the use of steroids especially in the olympics we'd still be running a 11 second 100m

I think it would be more interesting for sports to allow chemical enhancement. If everyone was on, then it would be fair. And some new records would be set. The only down side I can see is the kids and the retards that would try to be their hero. You know, the people that think they jump higher if they wear Air Jordans. Or the trailer trash that think they'll lose the beer gut if they buy an ab roller. No one would take the time to get educated. I'm not saying it doesn't happen now. I just think it would be more wide spread.

This very question took the Canadian government two years to answer. After the Ben Johnson thing...they decided to put the most sophisticated drug testing program in place, but they had to justify why. The motto of the olympics is faster, higher, stronger, so using drugs is in keeping with that motto. They couldn't say you can't use them, they are harmful because the intent of some sports is to beat up your oppponent. Even the ancient Greeks consumed a kind of magic mushroom before competition. They couldn't say that it was a technological advantage, what about spiked running shoes or the new swimsuits. They allow people to wear corrective lenses, which is artificially enhancing the ability to compete. They couldn't even justify it with internal use vs external use. What about vitamins, high altitude training (nitrogen tents). You are allowed to use artificial sweetner to meet your weight, but not steroids. The justification they came up with is that it violates the pure joy you get when master a sport. It's the pleasure you get when you perform the sport to the best of your ability. That is an internal value of sport. Where you place doesn't affect this internal feeling. Drugs enhance the external value of sport. If you place first, you get more money and fame. That is what they use to justify not using drugs in sport.

i dont think any type of drug enhancement sould be put up with, the whole point of sports is to better yourself and represent your country. put drugs in the equation and it defeats the purpose of human earned achievments. we would no longer be relying on physical strenghth and god given genetic abilities, but just whether or not your country has the latest proformance enhancer. just my opinion. |
