MY 1YR 9MTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH MENENGITIS MALLICANIGN (SP)? THEY SAID SHE HAD A REALLY BAD CASE OF IT AND SHE'LL HAVE TO BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A FEW WEEKS! SHE HAD A SEZIURE AND FOAMED AT THE MOUTH AND THEN WAS RUSHED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM...SHE'S NOW IN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT OF CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. I'VE BEEN AWAKE FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT NOW. I'M A NERVOUS RECK AND JUST ENDED MY 3TH WEEK OF SUS, CYP, PRIMO, AND INSULIN......I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE! SHE'S GOTTA BE OK.......DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO, OR ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT MENENGITIS? ANY ADVICE IS HELPFUL!! PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR BAILEY! ------------------ BONERS ARE FUN FOR GIRLS TO SIT ON!!     | ||

im sorry to hear that too bro. i know a person who had menegitis, and every thing was ok because they found it quickly and hit her with high doses of medicine. The doctors should be able to tell you all that you need to know. good luck. | ||

Bro that's aweful tough. I,m sorry to hear it. A friend of my wifes daughter was diagnosed with menengitis the caught it early after a seizure. She is fine now. The good news is (if their can be any) they treat it with steroids. Our prayers go out to you and your family. GOOD LUCK. | ||

You're in our thoughts bro...I'd be hittin' those friggin' doctors up for as much info as they can spit at you to keep aware of the situation and your options...best of luck, things will always work out for the best if you want them to bad enough, you have to believe that in this world most of the time! I'd also do a search on www.dogpile.com for "menengitis" and the specific type that she has...again, your in my thoughts, and so is Bailey!!! ------------------ | ||

In a given year, 4.5 children (per 100,000 population) between 1 month and 23 months will get meningococcal meningitis. The older you get, the more capable your body is of fighting off the infection. Bacterial meningitis is fairly uncommon, but can be extremely serious. It is fatal in one in 10 cases and one in 7 survivors is left with severe handicap, such as deafness or brain injury. The bacteria which cause both meningococcal and pneumococcal meningitis are very common and live naturally in the back of the nose and throat, or the upper respiratory tract. People of any age can carry these germs for days, weeks or months without becoming ill. In fact, being a carrier helps boost natural immunity to the disease. At any one time, around 10 to 25 per cent of the population are carriers. Only rarely do the bacteria overcome the body's defences and cause meningitis. Your daughter will be in my prayers. Meningitis: is an inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and the spinal cord. The symptoms of meningitis usually appear suddenly(acute meningitis), but in some forms of the disorder, the onset of symptoms may be gradual. If untreated, acute meningitis is rapidly fatal. Meningitis may be caused by a wide variety of viral, fungal, protozoan, or bacterial infections. Symptoms: Acute meningitis is often preceded by a minor flu like infection or by a sore throat. After one or two days, there is a sudden onset of severe headache, vomiting, fever, stiff neck, and mental confusion. In severe cases, the patient goes into a coma. The patient may also be unable to straighten the leg after bending it at the hip joint(Kernig's sign) and may be abnormally sensitive to light(photophobia). Some infections that cause meningitis, such as meningococcal meningitis, may produce skin rashes. In small children, meningitis may cause irritability, lethargy, and a loss of appetite. If the onset of meningitis is gradual, the symptoms are similar to those of the acute form, but develop over a period of one to two weeks. Treatment: The treatment of meningitis depends upon the cause. Meningitis may be fatal if treatment is not started in the early stages; immediate hospitalization is necessary. A lumbar(spinal)puncture is then performed and the cerebrospinal fluid examined to determine the cause of the meningitis. Most patients with acute bacterial meningitis respond well to treatment with powerful antibiotics. Intravenous fluids may also be necessary if the patient is dehydrated. The treatment of protozoan and viral meningitis depends upon the symptoms. Patients with viral meningitis usually recover, but they may be extremely ill during the early stages of the disorder. In some cases meningitis may cause residual injury to the nervous system, such as deafness. On a personal note, a close friend of mine had viral meningitis, and has fully recovered and is currently a lot bigger than I am. I am sure your daughter will be okay. hey bro i had the virul minigitis when i was about 13 years old. at the time i really did not know the seriousness of the illnes untill i was in the hospital for few days. it was a really painfull expierence, but i recovered within the next two weeks. the doctors said i should never see this virus again, and i thus far that was the sickest i have ever been. | ||

A young, new preacher was walking with an older, more seasoned preacher in the garden one day and feeling a bit insecure about what God had for him to do, he was inquiring of the older preacher. The older preacher walked up to a rosebush and handed the young preacher a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any petals. Hardball... When my daughter was first born she almost died due to complications at birth. I can't imagine what i would have done had she not made it. The only reason she did was because of the miracles preformed by modern medical technology. I will tell you that it is going to be rough going but sooner than you expect she will be giving her daddy hell for about the next 17 years or so. Have faith in the Doctors they truly do preform miracles these days. If little bailey is anything like her dad this thing isn't strong enough to keep her down. Hardball, I can't imagine what you must be going through I will put you and your daughter in my prayers tonight this is one of my favorite poems/stories: One night a man had a dream. He had dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him, and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed You most You would leave me." The Lord replied, "My son, my precious child. I love you, and I would never leave you. Bro , I know what you are going through.I almost lost my daughter at birth also. My fiancee had menegitis at age 2. The docs caught it early and she was fine. My fiancee said it can come back as it did with her in her early 20's.Once again she overcame it.Now she is 36, stubborn/strong and beautiful. Yer daughter will be the same way.Especially with all these bros pulling for you. You daughter and family are in our prayers. Have faith bro she'll pull through. -8UP- | ||

You know, I've been thinking about this thread all day. Maybe it's because of 43 years -- or maybe because of this board -- but I think I'm finally becoming at least mildy religious. I'm glad to hear she is going to be okay. And then she'll grow up to be a great lady I'm sure, even though she might not remember her trauma. You certainly will, though. That was 49 years ago, when medicine was much more primitive than it is now. I recovered, with no aftereffects, and have lived a very healthy life, overachiever, kids of my own, all that.
