Been training since 15,now 25, 13 years. I used to train the same muscle 3 times a week like every book and magazine showed at that time, overtraining wasn't to in vogue then, and of course made very little progress. I read and read and realized what my errors were and cut back on frequency and made slow gains from there. To the question assuming one is on gear, your average cycle, and trains correctly and very hard and eats and sleeps properly is training a certain muscle every 5 days to soon? Would once a week be more optimal? I'm definitely not a fast gainer and I do a lot of other activities but I do get my rest and don't have much stress. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

There are basically 2 schools of thought on the subject of training frequency, and you mentioned them both: once a week, and every 5 days. I personally stick mostly to the "once a week" school, but I've also done occassional "4 days on, 1 day off" spurts with good results. I personally wouldn't do a constant "4 day on, 1 day off" routine, but doing a short cycle of this type of workout, such as when you're juicing, shouldn't hurt. Of course, listen to your body and if you're still sore when day 5 rolls around or you're not seeing the results you want, you might want to back off a bit and give your body that extra break. I work a 40 hour job, so once per week is what I prefer. This allows me to recover mentally and physically from all the other bullshit. ------------------ Visit my website (free of all Musclehedz pictures) at http://profiles.elitefitness.com ![]() ![]() ![]()

You have wasted 13 years of your live, dont waste any more time. Do yourself a favor and read the "Heavy Duty II" book of mike mentzer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If your training the way you should, once a week is perfect. I have trained bodyparts where I was sore for over a week. Rest is equally if not more important than lifting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think that you can train certin body parts more often. It depends on the person. My upper body heals quick, but man it takes me the whole week to heal after squats and deads. My recovery is way down on this Body Opus diet too. This is juice free so I dunno about while you on. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I only wasted about 4 years as I altered my ways early. And I'm 28 not 25. I have read and listened to Mentzers philosophy and while he makes a very good case and argument I don't fully agree with him or his methods. 1 or 2 sets once every 10 days, or there about, is just not enough in my opinion and I bet most bros here agree. I don't think there is any need to do 15 sets per bodypart but 2 sets and leave? Also due to the frequent overlap in muscles worked(bis with back, tris with shoulders and chest etc) I see once a week real hard as the best way to go, especially if natural. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Stick with the once a week routine. Allow your self time to rest during the week too. You know the only way you grow is by resting enough. I would suggest 2 on 1 off or 3 on 1 off, working each bodypart once a week maybe with the exception of calves. ![]() ![]() ![]()

jarabbit, you're perfectly right to view Mentzer's dogma with suspicion. I really believe that Mentzer doesn't realize that most lifters aren't huge ripped pros like him looking to maintain, but are looking to grow. Workout 20 minutes a couple of times a week, and grow? Two sets and get out? C'mon.... I personally workout six days per week, a sixway split, so that I hit the big muscle groups just once a week, then in a supporting role another day per week (example, I do arms once a week, but I also know I use my bis a lot as supports on backday). Basically, try to stress a muscle seriously by concentrating on it just once a week. Bull Dog, though, has a point, some muscle groups can tolerate more frequency than that. I believe that abs, calves, traps and forearms are in that class, but some of the bros may feel differently. Interesting thread. Be well, brother, and lift heavy. I personally hit everything up once a week... My split varies every couple of months, but as it stands now, I'm in the gym 4 days a week... Monday - Pushes - Chest, Shoulders, Tris This seems to work well for my recovery ability right now... If I were juicing I might modify it to a 4 on, 1 off type of schedule. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
