I just answered this question in another thread, but this is one of the biggest misconceptions about ab training. The majority of people train their abs in a high-rep/volume fashion because they were always led to believe that abs are composed mainly of slow twitch fibers. Absolutely inaccurate. The fact is that abs are mainly fast twitch in nature, similiar to your hamstrings. Therefore you would do best to train your abs with heavy weights and low reps. Doing Swiss ball crunches for 4-8 reps with a dumbell is amazing. People will say "Well I don't want my abs to get too big". Well no shit. If your abs start to get too blocky or muscular (which is highly unlikely) then stop training them as heavy. But usually these people have puny underdeveloped abs in the first place, so it would do them good to up the intensity. | ||

I've got one and it's good for a burn that's for sure. The best thing I do is take a dumbbell with free weights on it (not fixed like at the gym) get on your knees and roll it out in front of you and back. Then you can roll it to the sides. There's a product on the market that uses surgical tubing with a handle with wheels but I'm a tall mofo and that line gets uncomfortably tight with a full extension. This is cheap and very effective. I use both for my abs routine. Later, Green |
