How do you guys feel about negative reps. Towards the end of my chest workout I've incorporated two sets on the flat bench and it seems to be rippin' my fibres apart. I love it. My chest is sore for days! Anyone else do 'em? ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I love them while on especially feels great. When Im off i find that I shouldnt do it as much it seems detrimental to my work out, I will still do some negs but only the last couple sets. Slopain ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You gotta have em! "Negative" muscles are 40% stronger than its contrating counterpart, and to not work out 40% of your strength is something I'd hate to do without. That's why you will always be able to lower more weight, for example, on bench than raise. Look at those olympic gymnists! They're yoked to the gills, and all they basically do is work out doing negatives. The only drawback to negatives is that there's no explosion of the muscle, working mostly slow-twitch. That's why you can't do an entire routine based on negatives; they're only good to rip up the muscle (for our purposes) after an exhausting set. I recommend them after each set to really put a sore on the muscle. Always increase your time duration on each seperate workout doing negatives to increase shock and intensity. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Negatives are great! I would cycle them maybe every third workout though. The problem with doing them all the time is that while they do cause some serious growth, this growth comes from the great amount of tissue damage they cause. Concentrate on an explosive positive portion of the rep also. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Negatives are very important...Even when you are completing a full rep, it's important to concentrate on the negative part of the movement. Negatives make a big difference when it comes to putting size on my triceps. ------------------ Visit my website (free of all Musclehedz pictures) at http://profiles.elitefitness.com ![]() ![]() ![]()

I love throwing in a couple of negative reps at the end of your last set of any given exercise... It completely tears you up. Also, I totally agree with ajc about concentrating on the eccentric portion of EVERY rep... You get much better workouts when you CONTROL the weight on the way down instead of just throwing it up and basically letting gravity bring it back. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
