Its a great idea man. To get big you have train big, its no secret. Pyramiding with lower weight and working up to your heaviest in my opinion is counterproductive. 2 warmup sets heaviest set first then pyramid down. for every plate you strip compensate by increasing rep sceme accordingly. This way you hit all red and white muscle fibers.

Try this. Try your max 1rep first then take off 15 lbs. and try to get 2 reps take of 15 more and try to get 3 reps. Do this until you get to 6 reps. It has really worked for me. In two years I went from a max of 185 to a max of 345 without the sauce. I did this routine twice a week. It is not for the week at heart but it will work if you are determined.

Sounds good. Recently I started doing every set for 15 reps no matter what for 3 sets. If your used to hittin it heavy try this. Its fucking nasty. Next week Im gonna try going heavy again 6-8 reps but dropset to get a total of 15 reps.

It is pointless to do your light weight first if you are going to then go heavy. Unless you are bored and want to prefatigue a muscle once in a while. You want to get the most power production that you can out of an exercise so you should hit the heavy first. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death."

Heavy iron builds heavy muscle, bottom line! Why bother workingout if you're going to pre-exhaust yourself out. A muscle can only be as strong as its weakest link, and if you pre-exhaust your weakest link, you'll never touch the heart of your muscle and strength.

I have never tried this before, i am gonna give it a shot. Thing is you probably have to warm up with a bunch of sets first or get hurt. You guys only do this with bench?

Personally i go with the heaviest weight for 4-6 reps, 3-4 sets starting with and finishing with the heaviest weight possible. I have read in MAX OT that muscle memory will remember the last weight you used, stating that if you work out with 315 4-6 on your last set make it 315 4-6, the following week go up five pounds and so on has worked for me in the three years i have been training, but varying your workouts is key.

Are you lifting for size or power?? If you are lifting for quality size I would try to stay with light weight high reps and work up with the heavier weight less reps.

My last chest day I was doing dumbell presses. My last set was the heaviest and I got 4 reps out of it. Yesterday I used the same weight in my second set (out of 4) and I got 8 out of it, no problem. I again got 4 out of the heaviest set. I am going to try try the heaviest first next time. It's funny, I think of things during the day, and almost always I see a post the same night on the subject I was thinking about. It freaked me out when the post about getting pins and needles in the arms was there. I was asking my buddy about earlier that day. He had no idea what I was talking about and I got home and someone had posted about it.

Dynoalbino: I'm really glad you started this thread. I almost always pyramid down on every lift (that's my answer to Roy D Rage, it works on all lifts, IMO). Pyramiding down and keeping the rep range (and thus, Time Under Tension or TUT) at a respetable level as fatigue sets in always made sense to me, the pyramid up thing never did. I don't think Geared understood the point. We're not talking about reducing weight across workouts or weeks, here, but rather pyramiding down with the workout. Goheavy63: Explain your program a little better, bro. I'd like to learn more about it. Post a new thread or email me offline. Thanks again, Dyno. Be well, and lift heavy (on the first set, at least). You know I have always wondered about this, but all my partners start light and work their way up. But I usaully work out by myself anyway, so I will put this to test next chest workout. I have been on a standstill on chest for awhile now, and I really want to break through once more before my next cycle. Thanx Bros, "Reinventing the Steel" ChaosXL |
