Well put me back on the shelf. My pec has torn again. Not as bad this time. I have not gotten the full report from the MRI but the doc is saying I have damaged the 'musculotendinous junction'....ie where the tendon connects to the muscle. Same thing that happend last time without pulling the tendon off the bone on the other end.

SO we'll see what happens, there is really no surgical repair for this area. I'll be heading back to UF for more tests so you guys have fun.

Damn that sucks bro. Does that injury prevent you from doing other upper body exercises too? By the way, you going to be at the LSU game this weekend? I'll be there.

First of all I didn't want to hear that. I tore mine 50% off the bone with some muscle belly damage 2.5 months ago and lately I have had a couple of "near misses".
Secondly, my friend, I DO feel for you. I CAN empathize with you completely. I hope this heals fast for you.

Sorry to hear about that BPP.

Seems like it was just yesterday that you were excited about getting back into the game after the first pec tear. Hoping for your speedy and full recovery bro.

I just had major pectoral surgery on jan. 19th. did it during warming up on the bench was on rep # 8 felt a surge come thru my arm like i just grabbed a high voltage line at the same time it felt like it was a shade be let up my pec just rolled over to the center of my chest.
i saw the 4th top surgeon in the u.s. had an mri done he said he's only seen 4 other cases that severe like mine.
muscle totaly seperated from the pectoral major tendon and torn away from rear deltoid muscle. i was out for 8 weeks went thru 8 weeks of pt my chest is just as strong now as it was when i tore it. the only thing is when i do chest my left side swells up looks real good but dwarfs my right pec and it's a pretty long scare most people think i had rotator cuff surgery the scar is similar.
i'm gonna have laser cosmetic surgery probably late next year to remove it.
if you go to the right surgeon and have a great pt . you should come back better than ever.

Bfunk....I'll be there if the Double Tree can squeeze me into a room for another night. If you're out and about, I always frequent CJ's before the games and the Purpose afterwards. I'll be the big guy in a blue sling !

EZE.....My original tear was a complete tear of the tendon from the humerous (also taking out about 1/3 of my bicep) and a partial tear of the muscle from the tendon in the pec itself. My situation was compounded because my original doc insisted that I would heal naturally. I was 15 months from the tear until I had corrective surgery. Luckily I had a great surgeon from Shands and until this point I had no problems. As you know and remeber, that feeling of electrical shock is almost un bearable, I also distinctly remeber the sensation of rope un winding as my pec retracted into my chest. Hope no one else ever goes through that. I think this injury was from incline benching of 225. I had some pain afterwards but didn't give it much thought until Monday when I reached for some 80 lb db's, I soon as I had my left side of the rack, I had that electrical shock wave run from my pec to my wrist. The muscle spasms and twitching have not stopped since.

ANyway, for some reason I'm not to worried about this injury. In in no way can be worse than my original injury. For those of you reading this, take my advice and stay away from any and all heavy straight bar presses, your bodies are not built to handle the stress. My 1st time was at 385, this time at 225. Go figure. I can feel my weight dropping by the minute, you guys might have to call me LittlePapaPunk from now on.

Sorry to hear about that, that last time
was bad enough. I agree with you 100% about
heavy straight bar exercises being far more
dangerous than beneficial. I'm currently
undergoing lengthy rehabilitation for a
a cuff injury, which as you guessed it,
resulted from insane poundage on the
straight bar shoulder press. I guess we
just have to hide our egos (at least a little) and train smarter, and of course
never neglect the accessary muscles.

Anyone got any rehab cycle and supplement advise with some science behind it? I'm treating about three old injuries that have returned since last Febuary and was thinking of working into a light cycle soon.

BPP,

I HAD MY SURGERY HERE IN FL. ALSO EXCEPT @ ORLANDO REGIONAL HOSPITAL. I THINK WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WAS SIMILIAR WENT REAL HEAVY ON INCLINE I THINK 245 FOR 6 OR 8 ON MONDAY THEN WNT TO DO CHEST AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT AND WAS ON MY 3RD SET 275 ON REP 8 WHEN IT PULLED. WHEN I WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM THAT FRIDAY NIGHT THEY GAVE ME AN ICE PACK AND TOLD ME TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE ON CALL SURGEON ON MON. SO I DID & HE SAID THE SAME THING IT'LL HEAL ON IT'S OWN YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO LEAVE IT IN A SLING.
WELL THANKFULLY I HAVE ALOT OF KNOWLEDGABLE FRIENDS WHO ADVISED ME TO SEEK A 2 ND OPINION . THE NEXT SURGEON TOLD ME I DEFINATELEY NEED SURGERY AND IAND FOR MY TYPE OF TEAR BECAUS IT RETRACTED SO FAR THAT I ONLY HAD 21 DAYS FROM THE INCIDENT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED OR THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RETRACT IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO THE OTHER SURGEON LEGALLY I CHECKED INTO IT. DEFINATLEY GET ANOTHER MRI THEN THERE'S NO GUESS WORK. PLUS MY PT USED TO BE THE PT FOR THE ATLANTA FALCONS SO HE'S SEEN SIMILAR INJURIES AND I'D RECOMEND HIM TO ANYONE.
LIKE BPP SAID I HIGHLY AGREE STAY AWAY FROM HEAVY STRAIGHT BAR I USE THE HAMMER STRENGHTH BENCH AND INCLINE & I GET A TREMENDOUS PUMP AND STRENGTH INCREASE.

HEAL SOON.

Ok guys. I'm D-U-N...done.

I'm back to my sling for another 3 to 4 wks minimum.

I go back to the doc on the 24th but based on the first MRI I do have a tear of the muscle and there's not a good fix for that.

Here goes another year.

Jesus...I can't imagine that man. Not much I can say except I wish you the best.

Now, I am pretty young and new to all of this, and I don't want to have these things happen to me.

Would you say dumbells are a safer alternative to the straight bar? And do you think a lot of your injuries were caused because your muscles were too strong for your connective tissues due to AS usage?
